Things like this:

He had a distinct style, most apparent in the way he draws ears.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Pretty sure that first image is Yamamuro's.
Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru's #1 biggest fan

A piece of animation is a beauty of art.

I seem to recall this coming up before, and nobody having any answers. I'm a huge fan of this style.

I've been looking for the name of this artist, but I still haven't found it out yet.

Looks too pointy and angular to be Tadayoshi's.

Someone should write to TOEI and ask who the artist is, maybe they'll respond.

It would be hilarious if it was the same guy who does FUNi's art and the art on those energy drink cans, only his art has gone down the drain.

I absolutely love this style. Everything looks so "stable" for the lack of a better word. Lines are really thick and the lighting is great.

I like the shading and the way faces are drawn. It has a lot of depth and style to it. I also love the image composition. It looks like each drawing had lots of thought behind it, unlike these days when most official Dragon Ball art looks lazily cut and pasted.

I know that's supposed to be a joke, but that's impossible.

Agreed. Good composition definitely is what recent official DB artwork lacks. Everything is so randomly placed in it.

I wish it was required for them to credit the artist on these things.

I've always wondered this too. He's by far the best when it comes to DBZ promotional artwork. His style has much finer detail, than even Toriyama's work IMO. The new guy we have now... not even close to this.

I think this is the guy Young Jiji (AF fanmanga artist) tries to emulate.

You sure have a good eye for art styles. I have exactly the same impression.

Off topic question... is there an English translation of Young Jijii's Dragon Ball AF? That's the first I've ever heard of it, it looks very impressive.

That looks so much like the art I've seen on this one pixiv account, if I can find the account again, I'll post a link.

Thanks. Just recently graduated from a 4 year art college, I've been training so to speak. :P

Although I love this artist's style, its bigest drawback would be muscles looking stiff. Especially, bicepses are unnaturally stretched when characters are bending their arms. It's nothing compared to flaws in recent artwork, though.

I've been doing lots of searching for the past couple of years, mostly through reverse image searching (which was the only way I found some of them), and I've amassed a lot of decent to high quality versions of a lot of old artwork. I'll probably share them at some point in the near future. There are still a lot out there that I can't find good quality versions of though.

MiniTokyo has a decent collection of high quality scans.

The promotional art took a nosedive once Tadayoshi and Katsuyoshi stopped doing them. The new guy's stuff just looks so amateur.
