Could FUNimation's Season Sets Go Out-Of-Print?
Could FUNimation's Season Sets Go Out-Of-Print?
I'm just wondering, are there any chances that Funimations Season Sets for Dragon Ball Z Kai could go out-of-print?
For me, I've noticed the price of the DVD Season Sets at HMV rise from $40 to $50 online. And at my local HMV, there aren't even any Season Sets available and would have to be ordered in individually for customers. Last year, there were so many copies to be seen, and now, you can only order them in.
And at my local anime convention was no better. At all three DVD vendors this past August, I only saw one copy of Season 3 on Blu-ray and two copies of Season 2 on DVD. The next time I go to the convention, I'm going to ask the vendors if there's a reason for this.
But I decided to ask here first. Is it possible the season sets could be going OOP? I've already picked up all four sets, so I don't have to worry, but the signs I'm seeing are a bit alarming.

If they are going OOP, it wouldn't make sense because then Dragon Ball Z Kai wouldn't be on the market anymore.

It's not uncommon though, look at the Dragon Boxes. And there have been cases with other anime distributions where a recent acquisition can go OOP if there's enough demand, but it's very uncommon. I just think since the Season sets are just a re-packed version of the sets, it may be special enough that it may not be on store shelves forever.Valerius Dover wrote:If they are going OOP, it wouldn't make sense because then Dragon Ball Z Kai wouldn't be on the market anymore.
The parts will probably still be around, especially since I see A LOT of Parts at my local HMV and even the anime convention back in August, but I'm starting to see less and less of the Season sets. Considering the fact that it wasn't made public that FUNimation's Dragon Boxes would be on a limited run, you have to wonder if the same might happen to the Season sets. Let's just hope I'm wrong about all this.

Seasons 1 and 2 are not simple repackagings. They have one major difference from Parts 1-4. The Kikuchi score rather than Yamamoto. If anything, it's Parts 1-4 that should be out of print, since I don't think Funimation is allowed to sell them anymore. The Season Sets were made to replace the Parts, pretty much.

Parts 1-4 are already discontinued, I'm not talking about those. I was talking about the parts that are still in store. The Season sets could still go OOP.Valerius Dover wrote:Seasons 1 and 2 are not simple repackagings. They have one major difference from Parts 1-4. The Kikuchi score rather than Yamamoto. No. The Kai Season BDs/DVDs are like the Orange Bricks, they're always kept in stock because that's the only release available by FUNimation. It wouldn't make sense to make the Kai Season boxes go out of print because they don't have that the Parts did (Yamamoto's score).
Don't worry about the Kai Season boxes their value will always stay affordable and available.

I assume that you live in Toronto right? But anyways I don't think that the Kai season sets are going out of print. HMV just has fucked up prices for their anime.Bananape wrote:I'm just wondering, are there any chances that Funimations Season Sets for Dragon Ball Z Kai could go out-of-print?
