Do you feel you've hit a burnout of collecting DB stuff?

Post by dbboxkaifan » Wed Oct 15, 2014 11:09 am

I don't necessarily want to say that I've lost all interest but I've come to the point that I decided to only buy certain products rather than this and that, and this isn't some kind of a financial issue although it's somewhat related to the space plus I'm not so much into collecting Dragon Ball figures (I just have 2 and I'd say it's enough for me), rereleases of DB/Z/GT/Kai (owning 1 or 2 releases is the limit for me), cels (just got that RB2 Goku 'cause it looks cool) or wallscrolls (1x of GT) like most of the members here do.

I've got Battle of Gods CE Blu-ray on pre-order and possibly will be getting Xenoverse (maybe the PS3 edt.) early (but it still needs some adjustment for its engine) so I'm not totally ditching DB.
FUNimation 2015 Releases I want:
- Kai 2.0 on Blu-ray

Nope.

I've just run out of money and shelf space.

I'm way pickier about what I buy, but it's a combo:
-burnout on db video games (haven't bought one in years. I liked the Kai ds game, but console-wise, I think I'm done, even if XV's character creator looks interesting I'm not sure I want to buy.)

-the ability to buy stuff online. I'm actually way more discerning when I know I can buy 'anytime'. Makes me buy less. Back when I had no card, I'd buy what I could find in stores, which led to purchases I would not have made at all otherwise. If I were to try and sell some stuff, it'd almost certainly be that stuff I bought at Suncoast and comic shops, not my internet purchases.

-very little new plot merch gets released. BOG had an underwhelming amount of tie-in merch. I expect DB15 to be the same.

-the 'well, I've seen everything' feeling I have at this point. DB15 is the only thing still keeping me here now. I'm really excited about the movie, and it's killing me that they haven't given any updates in three months, but everything else I'm just not interested in.
On hiatus.

It comes and goes in waves like anything else. I just recently had the urge to go back and try to complete the Super Battle Collection. If I focus on collecting Dragon Ball stuff too long I'll get burnt out for a lot longer, so I usually stop myself. I actually collect a lot of other action figures (Masters of the Universe, Transformers, etc.) so I'll just move onto one of those lines and come back to Dragon Ball when I feel the spark again. I just wish we were still getting some mass market toys here in the U.S. I am looking pretty forward to Panini's new version of the collectible card game. Anyone else here going to play it?

Ditto this, especially shelf space.

Though I guess I'm slightly pickier, kinda, in what I want to pick up too. Sure, there's tons more DB figures I would love to get, but I really don't have the space nor the mind to pay as much for them as a lot of them go for. I've already got all of the anime on DVD, so really the only thing there I need that's actually available in the States is...well, the rest of the Dragon Boxes, to replace my Season Sets with. But that's almost a pipe dream at this point too. The manga I seriously need to get the rest of the VizBigs for. Video games, I'd like to pick up the rest of the ones I've never gotten that came out here (during the PS2/GBA era, I had everything, but then new systems came out and I fell majorly behind).

As far as actual products such as figures again, or plushies or what not, I'm kind of pickier there than I am with other stuff. A lot of figures and stuff just...well, don't look as good as I'd want them to, at least not for their prices.

This is, I think a very natural reaction to growing up while still being heavily into a franchise. As we get older we just have different priorities. There's nothing wrong with slowing down a bit and\or watching the franchise from a far.

I never was the kind of guy to buy eveything even if I love a series to death.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

I only started trying to get Dragon Ball 1 year ago and I already loved for series for 3 years by that time so I have a lot to collect like the Video Games, Anime(GT, Movies, Parts 1-8 of Kai, and maybe Dragon Boxes) so it isn't a burnout for me  . You should probably get the manga if you don't have it also. To be honest, I think everyone experiences this and even I am straying away to other Manga/Anime . I know Japan is getting a lot of stuff, but there is also a lot of new stuff coming here like Xenoverse, Dragon Ball Z Kai Buu Saga, Dragon Ball Z Season 8-9, 3 in 1s, Figuarts, and Jaco (Print Version). Maybe Full Color...

I haven't even begun yet.

Which is a shame, really, I'm disappointed in myself. But money doesn't grow on trees.

But when I start collecting, I doubt I will.

I sort've did after buying the whole manga, but that was almost 2 years ago so that wore off.
I already own the whole series on DVD so I'm done buying the series until a good Blu-ray release.

The only thing I'll buy now is stuff like figures now and again.....and the rest of the full colors if Viz releases them.

It's a little bit of this (with the shelf space issue) and being burned out. In fact, I'm kind of burnt out collecting a lot of things recently. I just can't seem to keep up all the new figures and collectibles coming out. And I'm not pinched for cash at the moment to sell any of the ones I own. It could also be that I feel rather content with the things I do have. Even if a new awesome omega gold new shiny DB figure comes out, I don't think I would be that much interested.

I felt pretty burnt out after buying all the kai sets.. All that money I could have used on something else haha. And there's still going to be more kai to buy in the future if I want it complete. :(

I'm trying to stick to just movies and stuff like that now. Let's see if that jump special or EOB ever get dubbed.

Oh and the shelve space bothers me too. Had to box some stuff and storage it to make room for the new.

No' I'm not done till FUNi gets the Dragon Boxes then I'm done collecting the series. I will pick up the new movies as they are released and video games starting with Xenoverse.

Honestly, unless something amazing comes out, it's pretty much Buu Kai and new movies for me. I'm still deciding on Xenoverse.

Nah. But these days I tend to try and get rare, unreleased stuff since I own DBZ US Dragonboxes, DBZ Jp Dragonboxes, DBZ french collector boxes, DBZ Kai on dvd french edition, db french collector boxes, DBGT jp dragonboxes, french movie boxes and japanese movie boxes. I also own all of DB french "collector" manga version.

I will buy DBZ Kai on BD when released in france, though, and Battle of Gods. And if DB or GT gets released on BD, YES THANKS!

I also own most of the video games released since Nes.

I don't own any music because I was never really big on that, but I'm starting to like listenting to HQ DBZ music more these days.

I'm really only interested in the Blu-ray sets of Z and Kai (hopefully DB and GT get released in the future) and the yearly video games.
Heh, the games only come once a year anyways so I don't really feel burnt out or anything from them.

I actually just bought a Goku plush since I barely own any plushies or DB-related mech outside the blu-rays. No regrets.

I'm burn out on buying Z is all. that's why hopefully Funimation's new Blu-ray season sets will be my last buy of the Z series for a very long time. My exception is getting the rest of the Boo saga of Kai. I actually would like a new remastering of the movies like the level sets but I doubt that'll happen. but collecting in general? Nope. as long as they keep pumping it out I'll more than likely keep buying(Talking merchandise and other new-ish stuff) Most of the time I don't have the money and if I did I still couldn't justify paying really high dollar prices for some toys.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Well I have to re-buy some things just because the ones I have are in such crappy condition, namely the Viz Bigs (the books are pretty much falling apart) and DBox 1 and 3 ( the boxes themselves are in terrible shape).

I've never been the pressed type to buy any and everything that comes out, just the important stuff. Which to me is the anime, the manga, quality looking games and of course new material.. I bought Battle of Gods as soon as it came out last week and will buy DB15 whenever its released over here.
It's not too late. One day, it will be.
