Removing music from Japanese Kai audio tracks?
For my Yamamoto Revival project, I want to rescore episodes 96-98 of the Kai JPN version. Does anyone know how to remove music from those audio tracks? I know that kei17 did it in this video, so it must be possible.

Re: Removing music from Japanese Kai audio tracks?
Well, Kei uses Utagoe Rip which requires you to have a 'music-only' track that the program uses to isolate the dialogue. You'd have to try and create your own by using the soundtrack. I gave it a go with Battle of Gods and it wasn't particularly great. You still have to add all the FX and atmos sounds back in manually which is an absolute ballache.
The other option, which I've used for my own Boo Kai placements, is using Adobe Audition's center channel extractor. It's essentially a very aggressive noise removal filter determined by picking out what sounds appear to be at the front of the stereo mix. It's hard to picture since...well, stereo is only two channels and there is no 'front' technically. Again though, it's not particularly accurate, it gives you the same artifacts you find from regular noise removal and you still have to add all your own FX and atmos sounds back in manually.
It took me hours just to do a 5 minute clip and even then, it wasn't anywhere close to perfect.

Hmm... okay. Thanks for letting me know. I'll see what I can do.AjayLikesGaming wrote:Well, Kei uses Utagoe Rip which requires you to have a 'music-only' track that the program uses to isolate the dialogue. Hey, aren't FUNimation's season sets audio in 5.1? How about using the Z recordings into the kai episodes as a last resort if that's possible?

Only the English dub is in 5.1 on those sets. I want to remove music from the Japanese version.sangofe wrote:Hey, aren't FUNimation's season sets audio in 5.1? How about using the Z recordings into the kai episodes as a last resort if that's possible?

Wait, you're saying Kikuchi's not in 5.1, only the old duck track?SuperSaiyanHedgehog wrote:Only the English dub is in 5.1 on those sets. Re: Removing music from Japanese Kai audio tracks?
I feel like you're misunderstanding what he wants to do here.
He wants a way to isolate the Japanese dialogue from Kai episodes #96-98 so that he can add Yamamoto back into the show. Kai is only available in 2.0 in Japanese and the Season Sets only have 5.1 dub audio and mono Japanese.
He's pretty much looking for a program to help isolate dialogue from a stereo track.

I once tried doing something similar. I don't know if this will work, but have you tried taking away the voices from the English dub to obtain a music and SFX track, then use Utagoe or whatever other program (even Audacity is good for it if used well) to sync that track with the Japanese version and make them cancel each other?

Yeah, I tried. It didn't work well, mainly because the reverb effects left from what you described didn't match the JPN voices.UltimateHammerBro wrote:I once tried doing something similar.
