Need desperate advice! Please help!
Hello everyone,
This is my first post, and I need your honest opinion.
I don't want answers from guys who buy all the DBZ stuff they can.
I need the opinion of objective, sincere DBZ fans.
I want to complete my DBZ movies collection. So far I only have the first 3 movies + Super Android 13 on DVD. I'm hesitant on either continue my collection on DVD, or move onto Blu-Ray.
I've read a lot online about the cropping for the Blu-Rays. Also I've read that Funimation retouched more than normal some scenes, etc.
What is your recomendation. Shall I start my collection again on Blu-Ray? or perhaps continue on DVD in 4:3?
Also...
Has TOEI announced if the movies will be released on Blu-Ray in Japan? Or have the movies already been released on Blu-Ray in Japan?
Another question... I've seen on Ebay some steelbooks for the DVD double features, but haven't seen steelbooks for the Blu-Rays. Are the Blu-Ray releases also available on Steelbooks?
Thank you for your patience and your help! I'm a newbie here!
Sincerely,
Karkitos Montana

Re: Need desperate advice! Please help!
Welcome to the forums
The 4:3 DVD' arnt bad at all. There were only steel books for the 16x9 DVD's (I could be wrong someone is welcome to correct me here).
Not word in Japan about blurays but they have dragon Boxes.
The FUNimations DVD packs look nice and are theatrically presented. These are basically the Blurays in lesser DVD quality. Coolers revenge has some audio issues (bluray as well I think) with the music and there is no alternate angles (Japanese text in the title and credits)
If you want the best available quality in the U.S, I'd say blurays (you can see screenshots at bluray.com)
If you want cost effective the 4:3 DVDs are pretty cheap these days.
If you want collectability, I'd get the steelbooks but I've seen them get rather expensive.
I hope this helps!!

Re: Need desperate advice! Please help!
wow thanks a lot for your answer!!!
I do want quality (blu-ray), but I'm not sure if the cropping will be an issue of not...
do you have the movies on DVD or BR?
Thank you for the warm welcome!

Thank you
I dont have all the movies but at some points I've had all the releases
With the 16x9 cropping you don't missing anything important because they shots were framed to keep everything you need to see in that aspect ratio. 4:3 just offers the full picture (or a nostalgia feel if thats what you want
)
For example, this shot of Goku

When they made them they knew they would be cropped so they made sure no important details would get lost.karkitos82 wrote:

July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

You mean for the theaters sintzu?
I love the animation and the art, specially in the movies (the regular tv show had some real poor art in some episodes), so I'm a little afraid I'll lose some of it on the BR, but I'll give them a shot.
Thank you sintzu

Here a good idea about the cropping to see if you'll like it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsAIoRr9JF0

I'm more used to the DVD version since I saw it hundred of times... But maybe it is just a matter of time to get used to the BR.

Re: Need desperate advice! Please help!
Yeah, the movies were intended to be seen in widescreen, so technically that's the best way to watch them.
I see you've decided to go Blu-ray (good choice!), but since nobody has mentioned them I thought I'd point out that there are also three Movie Packs collecting 5/4 movies each which are repackagings of the steelbooks with nice redrawn artwork based on the Japanese theatrical posters. Very cheap and space-saving if you ever want to go down that route.
Also, when it comes to the Bardock & Trunks TV specials (often tossed in as "movies" by Funimation), the Double Feature versions are cropped like the rest, which is not how they were intended, having been made for 4:3 TV broadcast. If you want 'em in the correct aspect ratio, you'd need to hunt down the old singles. There are newer single releases for both of them, but they're just the Double Feature versions split up in new packaging.

Gotcha! Thank you for the heads up Tori-bot! Gonna look for the TV specials on the old singles then (which I assume will be DVD).The Tori-bot wrote:Yeah, the movies were intended to be seen in widescreen, so technically that's the best way to watch them.
