Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.
For the purposes of this topic I'll be referring to Gohan's depiction as a SSJ in BoG before they changed it into his Ultimate form. Is there any reason why I seemed like he was taking longer than usual to power up into a SSJ? Every other Saiyan did it in a snap, but with Gohan there was this prolonged build up of ki before the transformation, like it was for first timers.
Probably rusty from not training much. From the end of the Cell arc to Battle Of Gods, which is a 12 year gap, he trains a few day tops during that time. Which was coincidentally the sparring he did with Goten in the lead up to the World Martial Arts Tournament with Goku returning from the dead on that day in the Majin Boo arc. There's no other indication he does training or sparring of any kind apart from that. Ironically, in the manga he transforms into a Super Saiyan 2 with practicallyzeroeffort, but in the case of Battle Of Gods, it may have just been that Gohan no longer training finally caught up with to some degree.

I still haven’t lived down going, “Who the heck is Tao Pai-pai?” that one time I was talking with Ei’ichiro Oda-kun. But the fact that there are still people reading the series after all this time… All I can say is; “thank you.” Really, that’s all.

And that you also have IMMENSELY skewed and comically backwards priorities in what you think is most important and needed to make a good Dragon Ball story.
