What other genre can work for DB other than Kikuchi

Post by EXBadguy » Sun Jan 18, 2015 2:19 pm

Yeah, you read the title. It can any, rock, j-pop, idol groups(eek!), etc. And for those who don't even like different genres in DB, just think. It's okay if you still hate other music interfering with its "tone".

As for me, I said it in many threads, I think rock(any kind), metal, and rap can fit DB....mostly DBZ.

1. Combichrist- Fallen Apart(an instrumental version can be used for the Vegeta vs Beerus fight) http://youtu.be/idnUvBEXD_I

2. Lil Boosie- Fuck you too(for Android 15) http://youtu.be/7Epoeal884M

3. System of a Down- Chop Suey(I say it totally fits Majin Vegeta) http://youtu.be/HrQsGeKN6qk

4. Atmosphere- Trying to Find a Balance(another song that somewhat fits Slug beating up Goku) http://youtu.be/gbEwHJX95QE

I wouldn't really put Kikuchi himself into his own "genre." It's just orchestra music. Sure, the arrangement has changed over time, but that's true for any film or television show that features an orchestral score. One could argue (and many have argued) that Kikuchi's orchestra sounds "outdated," but then so does any pre-80s Disney film or Gone With The Wind or the original Star Wars or anything like that. All of Dragon Ball's original composers (Tokunaga, Yamamoto, Takaki, Sumitomo) have featured orchestra music. It's just been the norm, and I certainly wouldn't want that aspect of the series to go away in favor of only using synthesizers or something like that.

And really, the series can work (and has worked) without Kikuchi. I don't think I've ever believed otherwise. Tokunaga did fantastic, and I like various selections of what Yamamoto, Takaki, and Sumitomo have produced.

As for actual genres, the songs used for the Dragon Ball TV series and the songs produced for the DBZ Hit Song Collections already run quite the gamut. I can't imagine anyone plowing through those songs and not finding something they enjoy. You've got adrenaline-pumping rock songs, jazzy ballads, love songs, and even character songs. The whole emotional spectrum of the series is covered and performed by quality artists and voice actors. I'd be hard-pressed to think of a genre that wouldn't work for the show if used well. Yeah, I enjoy certain genres more than others. Who doesn't? But compose the right song and I'll be satisfied.

I know Kikuchi falls into the orchestra category, but the reason why I specifically put him "as his own" cuz it seems that many people think it's the only thing that fits the series, not trying to be dismissive, but I was just asking. I don't think Kikuchi fits for Z.
