I guess they're known as the Gokuden series? Just wondering what your thoughts were on them if you've played them. Best way now is probably through emulation.

I played a few of them years ago on a old NES ROM. They were pretty fun in my opinion.

I played most of them.

I haven't played the Daimao Fukkatsu that much though. It was actually the first game. Regarding the Gokuden or Dragon Ball 3, I haven't played the nes version either, but I did play the Wonderswan color version. I have played all the others from start to finish.

Gokuuden (Wonderswan color version) is quite good and covers all of Dragon Ball. The battle mechanics are close to the ones from Daimao Fukkatsu, but a bit different from the ones in the later Z games. It also uses a board for movement like Harukanaru Goku Densetsu on the 3DS does. In fact, Harukanaru Goku Densetsu is a sequel to this version.

The Z games are quite interesting. You can play some sort of remake for the first 2 Z games if you play Super Saiyan Densetsu on the SNES, but you'll miss content that way. The first game does include Garlick Jr as well, and the second includes your travel through space (including shortcut) for both Gohan's team and Goku.

The mechanics on DBZ1 and DBZ2 are more or less the same and the leveling uses the battle power from the manga and anime. The game has some changes for DBZ3 to make battles faster, including a different automatic battle mode. It also dorps the old leveling system with battle power since those were not known for the android saga.

The only problem with those games is that DBZ3 ends with Piccolo vs Imperfect Cell and ends in a cliffhanger which was never resolved.

There is also Saiyajin Zetsumetsu Keikakku which has also different battle mechanics. This game has a completely new story (which later was ported to the Playdia games and to Raging Blast 2). It's actually worth playing. My only major complain with this last game si that the special attack mechanics are not really very good.

Take into consideration that this are card battle games. They have RPG elements but they are not really full RPGs. There is also no free roaming on the map. You have to use the cards for everything, including movement. The only one with free roaming is Super Saiyan Densetsu. Saiyajin Zetsumetsu Keikaku has an auto move mode in which you sleect where you want to go and then you only need to select the cards needed for that instead of selecting a card and a position each time as it happens in the previous games. Don't expect many NPCs either. For the most part you only interact with important characters from the show.

Thanks for the information. I had played the SNES version and liked aspects of the game (not so much the dungeon crawling). When I found out there were other games I looked into it. Seems like they could be some fun if I get around to playing them.
