Buy the blue bricks (DVDs) or wait for a Blu-ray release?

Post by JEFFMAN219 » Sun Mar 08, 2015 12:50 pm

Hey by the end of the year I plan on buying the rest of the original Dragon Ball anime. My question is should I wait until funimation puts the show out onto Blu Ray or should I just buy the rest of the blue bricks(I only own season 4 )?

Hmmm I guess it depends on how you are on money issues? We still haven't gotten a confirmation yet(That I know of) that Funimation is going to release Dragonball on Blu-ray. They just posted the movies up in HD and never said anything else. I heard that Dragonball and GT don't sell as good as Z does was the reason they don't show them as much love. I'm hoping they release the original series with all the proper endings on Blu-ray but in my opinion it's a crap shoot buddy. they acted like they were interested in more Dragon-boxes too but so far there has been zero info on that as well. if anything I'd say they have plans on remastering the movies of Z before anything else.
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

I have the money but right now I have some to bills off so that why I'm waiting until the end of the year to see if they plan to remaster it onto Blu Ray. If they don't release it onto Blu Ray then I'll just get the rest of the Blue Bricks. And ya I don't think that funimation will ever release the rest of the dragon boxes.

Yeah hopefully we'll get it. I just can't see them releasing another Z release for a long time. lol Here's my thing with Dragonball. either get us the other endings with it or don't even bother. :P I know it's not right to have that kinda attitude but I like knowing that I have everything about the series and so far I do! besides all the other endings to Dragonball and that kills me.

Don't Funi only have DigiBetas for DB and GT? In which case you'll be waiting a long time for that Blu-ray release.

I'd say go for the rest of the blue bricks. It'll probably be a long while before we hear anything from FUNi about another home release for the original Dragon Ball anime, blu-ray or not.

Better off just getting the Blue Bricks. Signs point to it being the only competent release of OG Dragon Ball we'll get on this part of the world.

Just go for the Blue Boxes. There's no BD release in sight, and the BB's are pretty cheap right now.

I agree with Big Momma, I would just go for the Blue Bricks instead of waiting for something that might not happen.

Yea I'm not counting on Funi to throw DB on blu ray. Get the Blue bricks or be like me and search for the Saga sets. From what I read in another thread the picture quality is more true to its original broadcast. Though the first and last two saga sets are expensive. I'm planning on getting those used, much cheaper that way.

You might get lucky and get them in a lot on ebay, but since you already have Blu bricks, might as well finish em off :D

If they don't announce anything by the end of the year then go ahead and buy the rest of the DVDs.

I'd buy them now. They're so inexpensive that, should a Blu-ray pop up a few months down the line, at least you're (presumably) not going to be entirely out of pocket to pick up volume 1.

You could flog them on eBay following that. People are always looking for Dragon Ball DVDs. There'll be a bunch of people unaware of a Blu-ray existing if you list them quick. EZ MONEY.

Go for the Blue Bricks. A BR release looks like it won't be happening anytime soon.
