Which means they need all the money they can get.... and DBZ is possibly one of their best money-bets. A PS2 DBZ game is pure gold for them.

Where abouts in the article does it say it is being released in the US?

Sorry, I can't see it there. Please tell me, if it is being released, because then hopefully the UK will get it.

I am happy that near the bottom of this artice, when reffering to Atari's largest franchises, Dragonball Z is mentioned first. I am happy DBZ is becoming the video game cash cow, and even if it isn't yet let it become and the franchise can make as much money as it can. It just means more games for us!

I am just patiently waiting to see what kind of material they can produce for the next gen consoles, even the PS2 games are looking good enough as it is, let's just wait and see.

Yes, that's exactly my point! Since DBZ becomes Atari's cash-cow, they won't let ANY japanese DBZ game NOT come to the states, especially if it is on a famous system like the PS2, because that means they would lose a lot of money!

They can't afford NOT to bring Chou DBZ in the states.

I don't know about Europe, but it's 99% possible that if Chou makes it to the states, it will come to Europe too. Perhaps even more possible, since Atari was (once upon a time) a French company.

Ah, how I remember the good ol' days... playing "North and South" on my Amiga, and "Quest For The Time Bird".... those were good games Atari... good games...

Good games and good times. :)

Well, since we know they were desperate enough to try out Sagas, I think it's quite obvious DBZ is their main cash cow. Hell, their issue with the Greatest Hits Budokai 3 showed they're looking to cash in on DBZ as much as possible, by giving us what Europe got for a "Collectors' Edition". I agree with you, ngnikolaos, Atari's definitely not gonna pass up the chance to bring Chou DBZ over to the States. Hell, look what they've been doing with the GBA releases; releasing Buu's Fury with GT Transformation in one compact game, just like they've done with Legacy of Gokus 1 and 2. I'd say, they're clearly desperate on milking DBZ, I'd be HIGHLY surprised if they were to pass Chou DBZ up.

But if Atari as a result does bite the dust, what will happen to the future of DBZ gameing?

Maybe the distribution rights would go back to Bandai as for the Final Bout and Ultimate Battle 22.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. DBZ rights mustn't be cheap, so the company who''ll buy them (the rights) better be a financial equal to Atari. Some games of Bandai never come to the US, so that might happen with DBZ too if Bandai will take back the distribution rights.

All in all, I don't really think Atari will shutdown just because of a one bad financial year. It is a big company with vast resources, so I like to think that they'll stick around for a few more years.

At least, until we get 3-4 PS3 DBZ games.... then they can do whatever the heck they like. :D

If something does happen to Atari I really don't think we need to worry. Lets say Bandai does get the rights to DBZ, I really don't think they'd shy away from the US. Bandai knows that DBZ is a major cash cow in America, and Bandai is always releasing other anime based videogames in the states. So it wouldn't be in Bandai's best interest to ignore america. Especially cosidering the low sales they make on there other titles. They can't even compare to DBZ videogame sales.
I'm on a PSP. And I'm trying to follow the rules!
