Ripping Subtitles
Hello everybody.
I'd like to apologize ahead of time for the billionth "subtitle rip" thread, but I just couldn't find anything really useful anywhere.
Would anyone know how to rip subtitles from my DVDs? I'm not looking to do anything illegal. I realize that I have to rip the DVDs to my computer (I have the program to do that). I plan to do that for ripping subtitles only, I don't plan on doing anything illegal with the ripped footage, as I plan to delete it right after I get the subtitles.
I'm not looking to sync the subtitles with anything. I just want all the subtitles. Basically the reason being that I, more or less, want a script of the show. So that I could always go in and pick it out for easy reference. Just ripping the subtitles and saving it in one big .txt file is good enough for me.
I'm not super tech savy, I'm pretty simple when it comes to these things.
If anyone would be able to help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance, and sorry if this kind of thread is annoying.

Re: Ripping Subtitles
What you're looking for is a little program called VsRip, this will allow you to rip the VobSub image files from the ripped .VOB media files. After that, it's just a matter of throwing the resultant .idx/.sub subtitle image file into Subtitle Edit to convert them to textual .srt subtitles, and you'll be all set.

Actually, I got it!
Thank you so much for your response. While waiting for someone to respond, I downloaded something called "SubRIp." And it works very well once you figure it out. I'm just trying to compile the subtitles for the Japanese version along with the dub version (using the old singles since the later releases don't have the dub subtitles) so I have it all at my fingertips if I ever want to quickly look up something, allowing me to see the discrepancies between the two versions if need be. It's like basically having a script of the show.
Besides, I was thinking about watching the Japanese Dragon Boxes with the subtitles in front of me through the computer or something. Annoying? Sure. But at least I'd get some sort of mileage from the Japanese Dragon Boxes in that case.

Just so you know, (and I don't mean to be bumping old threads) that ripping your dvds and movies is not illegal and you are 100% allowed to keep digital copies. As many as you like actually. What is illegal is sharing those files, either for finiancial gain, or just because you want too.

Oh yeah, I know that. I'm actually in law school and very familiar with copyright law lol I meant that I wasn't going to rip anything and put it out there either for free or for financial gain.

Well that's good. Just from the original post it looked like you were nervous about mentioning it. This isn't something you need to worry about much. Just wanted to let you know not to live in fear of that "rule" that people tend to think exists.Oh yeah, I know that. Yeah. I just wanted to make it clear that I "support the official release" and wouldn't help someone skate on by with freebies lol
