Besides Toriyama, who would you like to see write DB?

The discussion in the F thread is getting off-topic, so I've made a new thread.

If you could pick anybody besides Toriyama to write a (as in, for one time only) new DB(Z) movie, special, OVA, or short manga arc, who would it be? For example, would you like to see Oda take the job? Disregard art and pretend it'd look the same as always.

If it for a manga, then I think Oda would the perfect man for the job. I mean he's already a huge of Toriyama's work, and styled One Piece in the vein of the them.

If it for movie, special or OVA then Osamu Suzuki (One Piece Film Z), Kyozuka Maruo (The Last: Naruto The Movie) or Masashi Sogo (Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess).

I would love Sorachi Hideaki, he makes one hell of a plot twist since chapter 1, but the guy trolls too much that he makes AT's troll seem like a toddler.

Gen Urobuchi would find a way of writing the Dragon Ball out of existence so that the heroes stay dead. Yeah, he's that kind of writer.

Either Yoshihiro Togashi or Hajime Isayama. For Togashi, I'd imagine him writing the Saiyan, Frieza, and Cell sagas, making them dark and complex as possible(with Cell being the darkest saga of DB). And as for Isayama, I'd imagine Dragon Ball being primarily about the great apes destroying shit and eating people.

Damn. Dragon Ball doesn't need to all dark and brooding, that's not what it's all about. Dragon Ball was always about having the right balance of comedy, action and drama. It's just for that period of time, it took itself too seriously.

Urobuchi would be an awesome choice for something like an OVA depicting the story of the original super saiyan or even Freeza's life prior to what we've been shown. Those are stories that should inherently include lots of death and have a darker tone to it than other DB material.

I'd also like to see Akiyuki Simbo and the SHAFT animation team create an OVA series based on Trunks' struggles to maintain a normal school life growing up as the son of a genius scientist and a fighting maniac from another planet. Would be a sure hit.

Nobody. I know a lot of people are really disappointed by the new film, but nobody that has handled the series so far seems to truly understand the characters other than Toriyama. I'd be happy to see other people work on stories within the Dragon Ball universe (like the Bardock special), but not on stories with the main cast.

Thinking outside the box, I wanna see Stan Lee write a Dragon Ball story. The guy gets that you have to have the right mix of action and comedy, and he's got the credentials for both.

I think it would be fun to see an anthology-type movie like The Animatrix. Different artists tell a short story set in the Dragonball universe in their own style. It could also be a manga volume with each artist drawing an unrelated chapter.

Oda is a great writer but he doesn't take risks with his story which is what makes DB great.

I think Scott Snyder would be great writer cause he takes risks and does different thongs with his stories.

I personally wouldn't mind having Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro, author of Toriko, handling Dragon Ball. Toriko has an excellent mix of comedy and action, the environments and character/animal designs are fantastic and the action is pretty good as well. He'd probably go back to DB's roots and re-introduce the adventure element back into the series. And though I'm not a fan of current Toriko, it's still the most similar series I can find.

Nanatsu no Taizai's author would be a good pick as well, though the heavy focus on romance and melodrama should be dropped entirely.
