Emon's new DVD re-release of Dr. Slump in Spain

Post by dbboxkaifan » Thu May 14, 2015 7:23 am

While back in 2012 they seemed to have cancelled it it's now become available again with a new print and slightly different (no steelbook or fancy packaging -- which I think the original prints had).

Vol. 01 (Eps. 01-12)

Vol. 02 (Eps. 13-24)

Vol. 03 (Eps. 25-36)

Vol. 04 (Eps. 37-50)

Volume 4 is going to be released later this month (May 20) but if they happen to get the others out I'll definitely consider getting cause I was enjoying the dub very much!

Re-releasing it isn't a bad idea. They did a good marketing campaign back in 2012, but it was the price which killed the release: few people were going to pay 40 euros for 12 episodes out of 243.
Now it's roughly 25... I still find it expensive, but more people may be attracted by it now.

I assume it's still the same footage with tons of unfixable blending artifacts... so I'll pass.

I think the most any foreign release has gotten to is perhaps the 70s? :( As far as I know, it's only been released completely on DVD in Japan?

With any luck, this'll do well and start to spread to other countries. It's doubtful, but I'd love to get a release in the States, maybe even with official subtitles by FUNimation. (Or whoever else does dubs and stuff.)

I know the head of Discotek would like to do an English version of it, but the sales vs. expenses on doing the subs are quite tricky. Though the movie set did better than expected, I think.
