I survived Xenoverse's merciless RNG

Post by jrdemr » Sat May 23, 2015 1:55 pm

I got the platinum trophy on Catherine, cleared Bayonetta on every difficulty with all three characters, and not even Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood's extremely buggy servers managed to keep me from grabbing all the online trophies, so as you can see, there's a reason why most people tell me I have a lot of patience when it comes to videogames.

And yet, the bounds of that patience were put to the test by Dragon Ball: Xenoverse.

I can deal with insanely difficult stages, I can deal with crappy servers, I can even deal with some survival modes. But RNG... man, oh man. I don't usually play RPGs, so it's something I don't usually have to deal with, but from all the negative reaction I saw, Xenoverse's is pretty bad even by RNG standards.

Oh well, at least I don't have to deal with it anymore.

Image

No cheats, not even a single trade. Just good ol' grinding. Lots and lots and lots and lots of it. And it "only" took me two and a half months.

Here's to hoping that, in case a Xenoverse 2 ever gets made, the RNG system gets ditched and never comes back.

Now then, I guess I'll be making a full console backup (because I'm certainly not doing this ever again!). Then, I'll just move on and not play this game for the next... five years or so. Yeah, that should do the trick.

(Oh, wait, there's a third DLC pack coming, right?)

(Right.)

(Damn it.)

Congrats man, I too survived the RNG before DLC 2 came out with the improved RNG and platinumed the game. If I were to somehow lose my data I think I'd probably just quit the game all together.

I once leveled up in an RPG to level 99 by fighting over 10,000 battles against the same random encounter enemies.

I'd hate to see how you guys react to a real MMO.

Then this comes pretty late, but still, congrats to you, too! I didn't even know you could get all drops that fast!

Apart from the improved Ultimate Finish occurrence mentioned in the patch notes, I didn't really notice much improvement regarding all other drops after DLC 2. Some of them would still take 3-4 hours to get.

Then you've got some major grinding balls. Still, at least then you knew you were always getting experience. In Xenoverse, who knows when the item you want will finally drop.

Pretty badly, I assume  That's why I don't play them at all. And even when I do play a regular RPG, I generally ignore drops and just move on with the main quest.

On your XMB, go to Settings » System Settings » Backup Utility.

Play Final Fantasy IV DS and get some Rainbow Pudding. You'll never complain about Xenoverse again.

After I was done with that it still wasn't enough so I fought a few thousand more battles against high-level random encounters in hopes of getting them to drop items that permanently leveled up my stats until my HP were at 9999, my mana was at 999, and all of my stats were at 999.

Then you either REALLY like grinding or are just plain masochistic, man

I did that with the first Kingdom Hearts. And my first PS3 died the very same day I got to level 100 and synthethized the most powerful weapons.
Thankfully I managed to bring it back to life for a few moments and recovered the save files. It was a tough moment.

It's worth it when you take on the final boss and beat him effortlessly though.

I beat Yiazmat in one sitting.

I have nothing else to prove.

I may also be insane.

I don't really have the patience for MMO's and RPG's that require lots of grinding. It's probably why I love Chrono Trigger.

The only games I ever did with grinding was the legacy of goku trilogy. Ah good times

Busted :P

Well, you know... one's a Dragon Ball community, one's a gaming community... felt like posting on both.
