ATTN: Xeries (DVD re-authoring)

Post by M-Vegeta » Wed Mar 17, 2004 3:41 am

Just so you know, this isn't to continue arguing from the thread that was closed. I'm just wondering if maybe you could give me some info.
I've redone the FUNi discs and they look much better
I see the scanlines you talk about, any kind of movement etc. I get them even on my DVD player (Toshiba SD-2900).

I'd like to make backups of my FUNimation DVDs without the scanlines. Do you use AVISynth to correct this? And if so, is it fairly simple to do / use? One more thing, if you can direct me to a guide of some kind, I'd appreciate it.

If you're looking for a DVD guide then the DaizenshuuEX site has a great DVD guide. As to the other questions, EX is best equipped to help you with that. I'm certainly not! 8)

No, I just need a guide on how to smooth out those scanlines, then burn it as a backup.

If you really want to learn what you're doing and get all nitty-gritty with the DVDs...

You could rip the entire disc and certain segments as angle #2 (since that's where the correct title-cards would be), IVTC the entire thing back to 23.967 fps, toss it all into some AVS scripts with cleaning filters (smoothing, cleaning, sharpening), re-encode it all with a 3:2 pulldown tag, and re-burn it to DVD...

By the time you do this, though, it's pretty worthless unless you plan on REALLY watching them A LOT.. :P

Hmmm ... I didn't realize it was so complicated. Maybe I won't mess with it. Honestly, I haven't a clue how to do what you just explained. I'm new to burning DVDs (AS BACKUPS), the extend of my knowledge is ... DVDShrink. But I would like to learn how to work with some of the tools that clean up DVDs.

Anywho, thanks for some info.
