Arcades again?
Looks so good... Vegeta SSJ3 on the first scan already~!
Also wow, that's not a big title change. Makes it seem like it's a prequel to Zenkai Battle Royale.

I have a feeling that the game's nothing more than a port to a more powerful arcade cabinet that'll lead to a console version within the next few years.

I'm praying this is a port, but I have a feeling that it's just gonna be released on other arcades.

I doubt it's a port but would love for it to be. The only thing I would want is a better roster because I don't care for the one they have in Battle Royal.

I'm not even sure this will be a running on new hardware. Bandai Namco likes to launch revisions to their arcade games under new names to gain attention.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.
Re: Dragon Ball Zenkai Battle announced
As I said in the main Zenkai thread, they did just that back in late 2011 when they hit version 2.0, adding "Super Saiyan Awakening" and changing its logo just to to show off the update. It's exactly the same thing this time it seems: new version with big update, changed logo with a different title.Super Saiyan Prime wrote:I'm not even sure this will be a running on new hardware. Re: Dragon Ball Zenkai Battle announced
So, is this a new mode for Zenkai Battle Royale, along with a re-branding of the game?
Either way, not crazy about the focus on 2v2. Tag Vs was more entertaining when played 1v1, almost feels like Sparking's history repeating itself. The concept of Royale is a lot more interesting to me, where you're by yourself and can use an "enemy of my enemy is my friend" mentality, teaming up with someone for an instant before trying to take them out as well.
Being 2v2, you can't even really implement a lot of teamwork mechanics so it'll be pretty underwhelming. For example, are you gonna be able to revive anyone, with 2 players ganging up on you? Just feels like there isn't much to be gained here, besides some new attacks and new characters (that they'd add later, anyway).

Now here's the most interesting thing about this "rebrand": 2V2 has been in the game since the "Super Saiyan Awakening" update back in 2011 with its own ranking system and leaderboards and from what I've seen on NicoNico and comments of people having playing the game on their trips to Japan, it's actually the mode japanese players do prefer. (From what I gathered it was because in 1v1v1v1, due to there be a 2/4 chance of winning, arcade goers would schedule teams of 2 and these 2 players would never attack each other in the match, meaning they would always come out on top because the other 2 still had the free-for-all mentality, that and because Gundam Extreme VS which is huge there uses the same format, making it easier to pick up and play both games.)Rukura wrote:So, is this a new mode for Zenkai Battle Royale, along with a re-branding of the game?

In my opinion, I don't mind making 2v2 the main appeal of the game, but rather than removing "Royale" from the title, I would've changed into something else, the way it is now makes Royale a sequel game and not the other way around.

Huh. Interesting indeed. Seems really weird they'd want to change it and rebrand it like that, especially if the mode they want to focus on was already there.Quebaz wrote:Now here's the most interesting thing about this "rebrand": 2V2 has been in the game since the "Super Saiyan Awakening" update back in 2011 with its own ranking system and leaderboards and from what I've seen on NicoNico and comments of people having playing the game on their trips to Japan, it's actually the mode japanese players do prefer. As long as they keep the Battle Royale mode in the game, it's no skin off my nose, since this makes me think the game will barely change there.
Major flashbacks of the Jump Ultimate Stars podcast review, where VegettoEX tells his experience with online matches in that game. Nobody would attack so that they'd all get 1st place for the rank points. "A bunch of douche-pussies" I believe is how he described themQuebaz wrote:arcade goers would schedule teams of 2 and these 2 players would never attack each other in the match, meaning they would always come out on top because the other 2 still had the free-for-all mentality

You know, at first I thought it was weird that Zenkai didn't add Bluper Saiyan Vegeta with the F update, but now that we know that Super is going to cover BoG and F before going into its own original story is all makes sense. I bet that in 2 or so months we'll be getting another Zenkai update that adds Bluper Saiyan Vegeta and Champa.
