Production Timeline

Post by Cadellin » Sun Jun 21, 2015 10:26 am

Hey there folks, thought I would share a personal project of mine after lurking around Kanzenshuu/Daizenshuu EX for six years-

Seeing as we are somewhat encountering a 'revival' of the franchise at the minute, I thought it would be interesting to attempt to chart the development and release of each adaptation in the franchise, to see how we got here from a production standpoint.

It's interesting to see how quickly things picked up after the 2008 JSAT special, particularly on the manga front. Let me know if you find any inconsistencies or errors in the above, and I'll be more than happy to fix them. I couldn't find any information on whether Victory Mission/SD are still running, hence the question marks in 2015 for them. That 'World of DBZ' thing was a recap special Funimation made from older material, which if I remember correctly was a 20 minute teaser for the Androids Saga DVDs. I attempted to colour the various adaptations by 'era', but after 1997 the colours are somewhat arbitrary of course.

Edit- Updated to clarify the Trunks TV special. As far as I can tell, it aired in the regular anime timeslot that week, albeit for a longer period.

That probably could be made clearer- The Trunks special, and "Zenbu Misemasu Toshi Wasure Doragon Bōru Zetto" -"We’ll Show You Everything: Forget the Year’s Cares with Dragon Ball Z" both aired first in 1993. The year end show was never released outside of its original TV broadcast to my knowledge; there was a podcast topic on it ages ago. http://www.kanzenshuu.com/movie/

And what's "Illustrated Story Piccolo" and "Illustrated Story Vegeta"? I do not see them anywhere in the Manga guide.

Those would be these- http://www.kanzenshuu.com/manga/spin-offs/ois/
Theoretically light novel stories rather than manga as such, but it seemed wrong not to mention their presence somewhere.

I feel like it would be easier to just have "animation and "film categories". Otherwise, this is very cool.

Technically the World of DBZ special is a Funimation production, just to clarify.

I love stuff like this and I'm surprised I didn't think of this myself! Great job!

No, why would it? It's fiction. The strength of the characters is not possible to reach in reality.
I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

Thanks folks. And yes, the weird recap thing is indeed a Funimation-originated item of course, which is why it randomly appears three years after everything else in the classical Z era.
