What do I need to know about Jaco before seeing Res. F?

Anyway. I'll be seeing Resurrection F tonight, and I have done my absolute best to avoid spoilers and plot info beforehand. Inevitably, small bits and pieces have accidentally made their way in front of me though, and one of those is the presence of Jaco the Galactic Patrolman.

To be totally honest, I don't know a ton about him. If I'm not mistaken--which I very well could be--I believe he's the protagonist of a new manga series that Akira Toriayma began writing/drawing, and that there have been suggestions that the story of Jaco takes place in the same universe as Dragon Ball. I'd look up more on the subject, but I'm afraid of coming across more spoilers for Resurrection F.

Soooo....without giving away spoilers for what happens in the movie, what info do I need to know about Jaco before I go see the movie (if any)?

He broke his ship on the way to Earth and needed help to get it fixed, threatening an old man named Oomori with the Extinction Bomb, something that would wipe out every human on Earth. Along the way, he meets Tights (Bulma's sister), Bulma herself when she was 5, and her parents, and managed to get his ship fixed. Turns out he came to Earth to stop a little small Saiyan (whoever could he be?) from destroying it, but never finds him because he was distracted the moment the pod arrives on the planet.

I think that covers it all. Read his manga when you finish F if you're still confused, it's a quick read.

It was a joke based on how obvious it was :p. Jaco's manga itself already reveals it's Goku, after all.

It's not a suggestion, Jaco the Galactic Patrolman is an outright prequel to Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga. You don't really NEED to know who he is to enjoy the film, but if you're on this website, I'd say you should familiarize yourself with him. So, you have two options IMO:

1. Buy the digital volume and read it if you can't make it to a store. You owe it to yourself.

2. If you can't or won't do #1, then use Kanzenshuu's website as the resource it's intended to be. They have Jaco well documented and there are zero ties to Resurrection "F" that I can remember (as said film came out well after the manga), just Battle of Gods and the rest of the franchise.

You don't need to to know too much I guess on Jaco except that he is basically a space cop, a galactic patrol-man if you will, more or less like a Green Lantern. As for this character I will spoiler tag it in case you don't know that much

Personally, I think it was Broly.

I think it was mentioned, but he is a close friend of Tights, Bulma's older sister, and the rest of the family.

She helped him a lot while he was on Earth, as did little kid Bulma and Dr. Brief -- they helped him repair his spaceship. So if he was going to communicate with anyone on earth, it would be them.

That is the main thing you need to know for FnF.

Incidentally, does Jaco remind anyone else of Invader Zim? Especially the way his superiors don't really respect him and sort of send him to this backwater planet "Earth", which nobody cares about to get him out of their hair.

I have skipped most of this thread before posting, but from what I know, the Jaco manga is a little bit like Neko Majin(Z).

But much more involvement. I really would buy it prior to watching the film.

It is like $5 digital.

Well to explain briefly Jaco is a Galatic Patrolman that was sent to Earth to warn Omori that time travel is against intergalatic law. More stuff happens after that and we are also introduced to Bulma's sister, Tights. Didn't want to spoil too much since reading the manga would give you a better understanding of Jaco's backstory as well as Goku's origins.

How strong is Jaco you think compared to most of the characters that can compete on his level. Jaco seems strong and he kicks ass. Like I've said before, he reminds me of younger Kuririn from Dragonball. I'd say he's stronger or as strong as Kuririn.

I've never really thought of this, but now that you mention it, yeah. Other than the fact that Zim is actually on Earth to conquer it, whereas Jaco is here to save it.

Also, I know this is totally off-topic, but Invader Zim was a fantastic show! Too bad they don't make cartoons like that nowadays...

Really, there's no good reason not to buy Jaco the Galactic Patrolman and read it for yourself. It's only a single volume and it's a lot of fun.

The humor maybe, but not the point of the story. Whereas Neko Majin (Z) is just a parody-esque spin-off, Jaco is a straight-up prequel to Dragon Ball directly in its continuity.

By the time of RoF though I think he had gotten significantly stronger.
