When will there be New DBZ? (A real asked question!)
This one was so funny I had to post it. Someone asked this in the NZ equivalent of the TV Guide for this week.
Q. Will Dragonball Z be back?
A. TV3 has no current rights or plans for any more and are unsure whether any new episodes were made.
This is hysterical for several reasons some of which may be missed by those not from New Zealand.
In New Zealand we got the Funimation dub via Australia (yes that includes the redub of DB eps 1-13) and it was played on free-to-air TV via TV3 as mentioned above and on pay TV via Sky and Cartoon Network, where to this day it airs at 9pm weekdays. Most of the people in New Zealand got into the show via TV3 and their 4.30pm weekday showing from 2000 onwards.
The reason I find this question especially funny is that TV3, in order to comply get a G rating for this show (or else it would have to play after 6.30pm) they had to cut it to remove any sort of violence whatsover. This means no punching, kicking or violent deaths. Even the butchered season one and two Ocean dub was further massacred. I'm not going to go into detail except to say it made it really difficult to watch as most of the time you couldn't understand what was going on!
So why the hell would anyone wanna see more of the butchered stuff?
Let alone the networks obvious stupidity at the fact the series is over...

Good lord... why even try to show it, then? If you want a nice, kiddie-level, non-violent anime, then show Hamtaro, not Dbz!gohan2k wrote:...in order to comply get a G rating for this show (or else it would have to play after 6.30pm) they had to cut it to remove any sort of violence whatsover. I guess it shows that DBZ is so good that even a massively butchered one could be ridiculously popular. I also forgot to mention that they actually skipped 20 episodes.
The season ended with Majin Vegeta blowing himself up against Buu but when it returned a year later the episode they started with was the one with the two men who shoot Satan's dog!
The network explained it was an error but as they didn't have those episodes they would and have never be played
That's right they actually skipped forever episodes like Goku going Super Saiyan 3 for the first time and the birth of Gotenks!
Thankfully after the Frieza saga I rented and/or bought the DVDs to watch the show uncut and didn't have to deal with the edited crap. Needless to say it's a real jump from the edit of an edit version to uncut...

Seconded, it must be pretty hilarious.Tanooki Kuribo wrote:I'd love to see that....in order to comply get a G rating for this show (or else it would have to play after 6.30pm) they had to cut it to remove any sort of violence whatsover. Goku "Let's do this Nappa!" *a second passes*
Nappa "Ugh... I've been beaten, help me Vegeta!" *another second passes*
Goku: "You had no right to do that!"
It's kind of like Dragonball Z in a nutshell all over again. =D

You have no idea how close that is to what it was like but you forgot the reaction shots! For example...
Cell: I will kill you Goku!
(Cell charges at Goku)
-REALLY OBVIOUS CUT-
(Cell flies backwards away, bleeding from the mouth, away from Goku and into a nearby cliff)
(Z fighter Shock reactions)
Krillin: Wow, that was amazing!
The amount of noise in the dub gives it away as the music changes suddenly and you know theres just been a cut even if its not entirely obvious.
An actual example would be when Frieza beats the crap out of Vegeta. All that's really left of it is Frieza's whole "It pains me to do this Vegeta" and Krillin, Gohan and Piccolo's reaction shots.
The scene with Dende's death is pretty bad too....
Frieza fires beam
Shot of Dende: Noooo!
(Cut of beam hitting Dende)
Shot of Gohan, Explosion in background
(Cut of Dead Dende on ground)
Krillin: No! Dende!
I blaim Power Rangers for this ridiculous amount of cuts.
The "violence" in that show was imitated by stupid kids who went and hurt themselves, causing the show to be unofficially banned ie. No form of power rangers played on TV again after it's airing in 1994! (We got the movie in '95 though but three of the power rangers were different, unexplained as it was shown in the unaired TV episodes) but that's a whole other story!
