I think it is easy to play, and it is also a fun game, even more when you are facing a Player 2 and other two CPU. I had a hard time trying to unlock all characters, though. But in the end I made it.

Re: Is Battle Stadium DON worth it?
It's a fun distraction, I did enjoy a lot playtroughs, tough it's more an arcade thing and arcade games aren't enjoyable for me that much, unless they have Story mode or plethora of characters and things to do like Tekken.
The unlocking in this game is typically Japanese franchise-like. It's done by RNG in the form of slots, which makes unlocking more characters virtually impossible.
That killed my interest in the game. I never bought it and I am happy I didn't. It comes to me as a cheap franchise game.

It's a fun crossover game. I played it at Otakon in 2008 and it was enjoyable.

They game looks fun, my only complaint is that it is missing villains from Naruto (unless you count Gaara, at the time) & One Piece. Villains like Zabuza, Haku, Orochimaru, Itachi, Kisame or the Sound 5 from Naruto or Buggy the Clown, Don Krieg, Arlong, Crocodile, or Eneru from One Piece.

It's pretty fun. I'd recommend getting it for PS2 though. The game on GC has this annoying thing where when using the analog stick it instantly makes you dash, this make DBZ characters really hard to use. Alternativly you could use the D-pad (which doesnt make you dash) but the D-pad is absolutely terrible on GC.

Re: Is Battle Stadium DON worth it?
The game never saw a Western release most likely due to One Piece, Naruto and DBZ having different video game license holders at the time. Not to mention DBZ is dubbed by Funimation, One Piece by 4kids and Naruto from Viz at the time too. I think now, they could release it via PSN store subbed.

The game holds a weird place in my heart. I definitely have most of the memorabilia.

I got this game day 1 on release so I can easily give you the non-nostalgia review
Pros:
+ Good spread of characters from the three series
+ Some stages have interesting gimmicks
+ Graphics still hold up fairly well today
+ Decent distraction with a couple of friends
Cons:
- The health bar system was the worst thing they could done in terms of balancing
- The pachinko system is the only way to unlock characters and it's so frustrating to unlock characters a lot of the times forcing replayabilty in the WORST way
- Good luck getting most of the mission requirements done to earn coins for the pachinko. I wanted to believe they weren't randomly generated onto stages until I was required not to Jump on a stage that moves (Forest of Death and the Enel stage)
- No story mode just a intro and a ending

By the way, the game's opening song is a mixture of awesomeness!
And that goes from me hating the modern Japanese music.

Re: Is Battle Stadium DON worth it?
I'd say it's worth it for the average prices I've seen for it on eBay and such. For about 20 bucks and below it's a perfectly fine distraction. I'd recommend not paying anything above that to be completely honest.
If you're not here soon... GET ON!
Re: Is Battle Stadium DON worth it?
Personally I think it's a fun gimmick game, but that's all. You play it for the cross-over factor, not really for the gameplay. The gameplay isn't really as refined or intuitive as say, Smash Bros, so it gets pretty old pretty quickly.
Worth a play at a convention, no doubt, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get my hands on it.

Wouldn't you need a Japanese PS2/GameCube to play it, though? I thought they were both region-locked.

Well, I know, but I thought he meant he was buying a physical copy. He asked if it was "worth it", so I just assumed that's what he meant...DarkPrince_92 wrote:Ermulator *cough* *cough*.DoomieDoomie911 wrote:Wouldn't you need a Japanese PS2/GameCube to play it, though? There were disks that allowed you to play other region games on PS2 and GC, Probably Xbox too.
