Toei And Its Crazy Ideas...

Post by Tanooki Kuribo » Fri Mar 24, 2006 12:38 pm

Toei is creating a new "Z" series in Japan only..."Powerpuff Girls Z" that is. Now, I don't know if the "Z" is indicating that it will be a spoof of "Dragonball Z", but its possible.

(I dont know if this is crossing a line about what can be talked about here, so if it is I guess it'll just be killed off. I know its fine to talk about spoofs about Dragonball here, but we don't know if this is going to be one of them.)

Toei loves to add Z at the end of everything.

Although with Sailor Moon, they added other letters.

Er... Ok there. That is both surprising and weird. At first I thought you meant that there was going to be a new DragonBall Z series, and I was extremeley excited, for a mere second XD.

I've known about this for awhile now. :P But still, it's kinda weird.

I caught wind of this about a year ago.

The animation was surprisingly well done. And the story is completely different along with the characters. (However, they keep the same personalities. Bubbles is still ditzy, Buttercup is still the tomboy, Blossom is still the leader-type. However, it's a magicial girl-type...ish show with each girl has their own weapon. Blossom a yo-yo, Buttercup a hammer, and Bubbles...I think a bubble blower. O_o;)

And there is still Mojo. He was actually the villian they fought it the promo clip.

Wait...didn't Genndy Tartakovsky (SP) make PowerPuff Girls...like, in America? Did Toei buy the rights or something...?

Heh, I hadn't realized the Z was actually part of the title. I thought the internet community was just tacking that on because they thought it was going to be a DBZ rip-off deal. It's interesting though. PPG does so well dubbed over there that Toei goes and buys the rights to making their own version...

I've known about the anime Powerpuff for awhile now. The Z thing is kinda odd, but I suppose it makes sense.

I really, really, reeeeeeeeally hope this will get a North American DVD release soon.

:P I guess 'Z' means action to the Japanese or something, which the american PPG has. I've heard rumors of it appearing on Cartoon Network this year...
I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

Since this was announced last year in April, the first, and no further development has come forward, it's reasonable to asume that this was a (very expensive) April Fool's joke on behalf of Cartoon Network/Williams Street.

God lord! I thought the fanart I saw of that was just a joke...

As for releases... you know, I think it'll end up being aired on western TV. Powerpuff girls is popular in many countries, and I have no doubt that some company or another will buy into the ditribution rights. Afterall, it's a pre-famous name, anime, and girls with super-powers(a TV fad right now)

Here's the fanart I was talking about: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/17058597/

(also, BRILLIANT artist, thus the 5 million pageviews)

It's not actually a spoof on DBZ. As Castor Troy above said, many shows in Japan have "Z" or some other intial added to their title. It was a Japanese version they decided to make of PPG at the time because the American show is very popular in Japan. So it really has nothing to do with DB.

Ironically though, Tartovkosky has stated that DBZ's fights were a factoring influence for the battle scenes in PPG.
Jerseymilk: "Can I tell you something?"
B-kun: "What?"
Jerseymilk: "I see Fangirls."

*twilight-zone music plays*

Ooohhhh boy.

Actually I'm intruiged!

The style's slightly cartoonish (like western stuff) which pleases my eyes, and the personalities apear to be the same (by the pics) and I -liked- the personalities in PPG. (I was into it before Pokémon before DBZ)

You know, if 'remakes of shows Nekoni watched as a kid' keeps up, after the new Pokémon series we're in for another round of Dragonball! XD

Oh I've known about PPGZ for a while now.
You know in this series the three girls aren't sisters at all, just three girls who were chosen to be given super powers from the chibinized professor, so its more of a magical girl thing than the original series. They even have actual first and last japanese names when not transformed.

However, its been so long since I read all that stuff that I kinda forget. ^_^;;

And yes, I do want a new dbz series so VERY badly...
I'll settle for an nmz ova.
On hiatus.

Powerpuff Girls Z is a collaberation between Toei Animation and Cartoon Network, and is said to be a reboot of the franchise. That, and it actually looks good.

Besides... rumor has it that the letter "Z" was a replacement of the number "2", and it just caught on.

This intrigues (I can't spell to save my life) me. I haven't seen PPG while it was popular here, too girlie for me, *glances twords Chaos Saiyajin* some of my fellow males watched it though. I have added nothing to this so...anime version looks awesome!
Even I became a loser when I made one of these...
