Tear Up at DB
Like the title says, has anyone here ever teared up while watching any of the Dragon Ball franchise? Know a lot of guys aren't willing to admit to doing so, but thought I'd ask if any moments got emotional for you and it made you tear up? It never happened to me, but did with the Merry's funeral and more so during "Naruto: The Last" (inspiring this thread), and started wondering if that happened for anyone watching DB or any incarnation.

and I used to legit cry when I used to watch Goku meeting Goten and when he said goodbye (especially with the dub score. It NAILS it).
Re: Tear Up at DB
I didn't as far as i can recall anyways, yes Merry was very sad,
With One Piece though, when someone dies, they're dead. We all know if someone dies in DBZ the Dragon Ball's will be used, and Kaio will pull some strings.
But it doesn't have to be a death scene for someone to cry, but I do not remember doing so with DBZ anyways.

Tear up, eh?! When I was a Kid, three scenes always got me:
When Goku meets Granpa Gohan at Baba's Palace

When Piccolo sacrifices for Gohan

Freeza kills Bardock

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Re: Tear Up at DB
I don't think I've ever teared up, but Goku meeting Grandpa Gohan and Goku and Kuririn's scene at the end of GT are definitely the heaviest hitters for me.
Re: Tear Up at DB
I don't tear up much at scenes which are properly emotional, but it does happen to be sometimes on scenes which are just really intense for whatever reason, like when Goku comes out the back of King Piccolo's stomach.
Re: Tear Up at DB
While I've never cried at any of the scenes, the one scene that got me a little was when Goku was flying with Upa to go summon the dragon and wish his father back to life. When I watched the series from start to finish in Japanese for the first time, that was the one scene that made me tear up. And also when Piccolo died but not as much.

When I watched episode 5 of Super.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

Re: Tear Up at DB
The only times I remember actually tearing up or crying was when I finished watching Dragon Ball Z and again when I finished watching Dragon Ball GT as a kid. Both those times were more due to sentimental reasons though as opposed to story because I realized that there would be no more stories of Dragon Ball left. Man I cried like crazy at the end of Dragon Ball GT... More than I thought I would given that I didn't really like the series as a whole.

Re: Tear Up at DB
I don't think I ever did, unfortunately, considering I watched Dragon Ball for the first time when I was already a teenager, and I watched it with the Funimation dub that sucks out any emotional aspect of almost every scene. When I watched it in Japanese, I already knew what was going to happen, so I couldn't tear up watching it.

I disagree completely but that's your opinionDoctor. wrote:I don't think I ever did, unfortunately, considering I watched Dragon Ball for the first time when I was already a teenager, and I watched it with the Funimation dub that sucks out any emotional aspect of almost every scene. Re: Tear Up at DB
I don't think I've ever actually teared up to the extent that water actually formed, but there are definitely moments that tug at my heartstrings so to speak. And oddly enough, the things that do that to me the most are the endings. DB's doesn't really get to me since we knew it wasn't really the end going in, but both Z and GT's ending gets to me a little. Even now, knowing there's more out there past those two to experience (well, not really 'past' since nothing's gone beyond that timeframe yet), they still hold this feeling of 'man, what a great journey...this is the last time we're going to see these guys, but what a wild ride it's been'. And that hits me right in the feels man.

Re: Tear Up at DB
I have gotten choked up during certain moments -
Goku's reunion with his grandpa
After losing the 22nd Budokai and the first person to greet him is his best friend
Goku defeating Piccolo Daimao and breaking down
Yajirobe saving Goku after Piccolo's defeat
Goku rescuing Gohan from Nappa (I actually prefer the Ocean dub score in this moment)
Goku arriving on Namek (once again prefer the ocean dub score, though, the ship's voice hurts the mood)
The end of GT beautifully caps off the entire series.

1. Goku leaves with Shenlong while implying that he is dead (GT)
2. Piccolo dies.
3. Goku and Granpa Gohan reunite.

No but I almost cried when Videl started getting her head stepped on, and was screaming in pain, by Spopovich. Wondering how I will react to that scene now though.
