Does she say "okay" in the end? :?:

Yup, Dragonball has been referenced at least one other time in Buffy as well. But I can't really remember seeing too many other references or parodies other than the Kids Next Door and Robot Chicken ones.

Yes, I have made a School Rumble clip that shows one of the main characters going SSJ. You can view it here. Sorry for the stuttering. :x

And yeah, many shows and animes refer to DBZ. Here's an interesting info piece on Dragon Ball Arena.

In Doraemon (JAP anime) there's an episode the kids like to watch a TV series. That series is a pretty direct pun on DB. There's Son Goku with monkey features and his cloud. Of course we all know DB's Son Goku himself is inspired in a Chinese folklore character, but this one in Doraemon was evidently trying to play DB. :)

-_- Please don't use 'JAP' that's a racial slur. If you are going to shorten the word Japanese, then atleast use 'JP'.

Anyway, my favorite DBZ Parody would have to be Chickenball Z on Billy and Mandy.

Hoo boy, remember last time this happened? The whole subject of the thread got changed because everybody got on the guy's case about it :)
...Okay, so it might not have been "last time", I don't know, I just don't visit enough sections of this forum to keep up-to-date.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

I dunno about the anime, but Bobobo has had quite a number of references in its manga. Especially when the creator made that one parody comic. XD

Anyone who has seen Danny Phantom(I like the show, so if you don't, shut up) Sometimes it seems like DBZ with ghosts. I've seen about 6 instances where Danny shoots a ghost ray with his hands in the shape of a Kamehameha wave, among other things. Just the way the characters fight reminds me of DBZ.

...discrimination? I see no discrimination here. Just someone who is unaware of JAP being a racial slur. That does not count as discrimination.

There's a fairly odd parents ( film length) where Timmy gets sucked into the T.V, the last stage he ends up in a Boudokai like arena where he fights Vicky :D

Well that's what happens when you get a lot of dub exposure. The Kids Next Door DBZ parody embodies that perfectly.

He did capitalise it. I don't know about you, but that's more like a shortening or abbreviation to me. You see it in some places.

Lastly, I saw a rather long DBZ parody in Yakitate Japan, episode 55.

In addition to that for a brief second during the beginning of this fight in the crowd you can see what looks like Roshi, Oolong, Puar cheering on.

Sorry to go back to the "JAP" thing, but I must say, although I'm aware that "jap" is commonly used as disdain connotation term (in the US, since the WWII), like "rusky", etc.., that wasn't my intention at all. I meant to abbreviate the word "Japan". Like it’s usually done with "POR" for my country, "GER" for Germany, "AUS" for Australia, and so on... thus the capitals - JAP.
Sorry to have caused this little confusion. I thought you would understand.

This page contains a lot of info about Dragon Ball parodies, both Japanese and English. I've posted this link a couple of times in the past, so it seems cool that people are still interested.

What's the name of this film? Are there any screenshots? I'm building up my "References to Dragonball Z" folder. Gettin' pretty BIG!

In video games you see it sometimes. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for Nintendo DS has one soul move that looks like a Kamehameha. Dragon Warrior 8 for PS2 has character designs by Akira Toriyama, and a main character that looks like a Super saiyan when he powers up. You see lots of other little refrences like this in games too from time to time.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am a big history buff, especially World War II. While it is true that "Jap" was a derogatory racial slur used to de-humanize the enemy at that time, it is rarely used today unless someone is just totally hate filled against the Japanese people for some reason. However, many of the current generation are unaware of this, and do not mean disrespect. Many gaming magazines and such used the capitalized "JAP" as an abbreviation for "Japanese version" of games and such. This practice has stopped in recent years, most likely due to confusion over the racial slur used decades ago.

Unless you see it explicitly used in a negative connotation, I doubt anyone using the abbreviation means it in such a terrible way. We use terms like "nip this problem in the bud" and "Nip/tuck" in reference to cosmetic surgery and no one jumps anyone's case on that. If you know what I am talking about there, you know that very well could be a far more derogatory slur and hurtful to someone if used in a negative connotation.

I sincerely feel most people here are, by and large, culturally open minded people and not negative towards the Japanese people. Especially posting on a forum all about a Japanese made animated series. Let us, in the future, give each other the benefit of the doubt and understand that some people are truly in the dark about such terms and are innocently believing they are using an abbreviation only. It is somewhat refreshing to see people who don't know about such things.

In the future we should perhaps send such persons a PM in a friendly way and suggest that they choose a different form of abbreviation. Then include a brief description why they may want to make such a choice. Rather than jump to a false conclusion and verbally attack the person.

I believe we handled things fine in this topic and reached an understanding on the matter already, I just wanted to add my thoughts on the matter. Please do not feel I was speaking about anyone directly either. This was meant to just be a "You in general" not "You personally" type of advice.
