New Booklet/DVD Series Focusing on WSJ Manga Creators
"This year's 49th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine is announcing on Monday that Shueisha will launch its Jump Ryū booklet/DVD series across Japan starting in January.
Each issue will focus exclusively on a single Weekly Shonen Jump manga creator, and will include both a booklet and a DVD. The booklets will include: interviews with creators that reveal the secret story behind their debut, reproductions of artwork exclusive to the magazine, and paper that helps readers trace and draw famous scenes from the creators' manga. The accompanying DVDs will go behind-the-scenes with manga creators at their workspace, feature interviews, and offer insight into manga creators' creative process and their lives.
The first new nationwide issue will cost 702 yen (about US$5.80), while the second issue onward will cost 1,393 yen (about US$11.50). Shueisha will release the first issue on January 7, and each new issue will ship on the first and third Thursdays of the month. Weekly Shonen Jump notes that release dates will differ by region.
The first nationwide issue will feature Akira Toriyama."

Being Kanzenshuu the biggest Dragon Ball Bible it is, I think this could be interesting and maybe have some new information, that we still don't have here.
Also some people, may be interested in buying it too.

Two of the four of us actually already own it from the original run. Just haven't gotten around to covering its contents yet :/. Hopefully we can do so before the nationwide release!

It struck me as a bit odd that the original announcement and release passed completely without mention on the main site back in September (at least, I don't remember it being mentioned at all). Good to hear you were in fact aware of it.VegettoEX wrote:Two of the four of us actually already own it from the original run. Just haven't gotten around to covering its contents yet :/. Not sure how directly comparable the first Toriyama issue is to the other two released so far (given that it's half the price), but The One Piece Podcast has done some write-ups about the content of the Oda issue, if anyone wants to check that out to get a feel for what kind of stuff may be discussed.

The main site will alert us when it's up for pre order? I'd assume so but I want to make sure because I am really looking forward to this. How is the DVD?
Re: New Booklet/DVD Series Focusing on WSJ Manga Creators
Might be interested in some or all of these. They used to do stuff like this all the time back in the day. I have interviews, life of, specials, etc. for many old series and creators from 1980 to 2000. Do they not do anything like this on Japanese TV anymore??

It says that Toriyama/Dragon Ball will be the first issue, and that the first issue will release January 7th right in the first post.

They pre-orders usally come out earlier tho, and I'm thinking it'll sell pretty fast. I've had to check amazon for jumps everyday with how fast they go.TheDevilsCorpse wrote:It says that Toriyama/Dragon Ball will be the first issue, and that the first issue will release January 7th right in the first post.

I'm sure we'll get some kind of coverage of the Toriyama issue via this site, but oh man...what I wouldn't give for someone, somewhere to give equally comprehensive coverage of what'll be in the Watsuki and Katsura ones. I need to know what's in them so bad. So, so bad.

They made my 3 favorite series, I'm so hyped! Maybe we see Sorachi's face finally, he's like Toriyama in that respect now that I think about itFortuneSSJ wrote:The only three I care about.SaiyanZ wrote:YOOOOOO Toriyama,Togashi, Sorachi

Re: New Booklet/DVD Series Focusing on WSJ Manga Creators
Thanks Rachel and FortuneSSJ for the information and links, I just hope my preorder is eventually fulfilled seeing as it's already out of print (as of writing) at CDJapan. For anybody that's interested or just curious, in total I was charged (including shipping) exactly ¥ 2,000 (about $17 or £11) by Amazon. The prices I've seen for the original run listed at eBay have usually been double that amount or so.TripleRach wrote:The first issue with Toriyama is up for preorder on Amazon Japan.dougo13 wrote:So, any news on how you can order these?

So, uh, does anyone think this will come back to CDJapan? Just try Amazon, or Kinokuniya, or someplace else?

There's a slim chance like how the Super Start Guide once went from out of print to back in stock, but I would suggest buying it from somewhere else until CDJapan opens preorders again.
