It wouldn't make much sense but it would be hilarious if Beerus was referring to the old Kaioshin. It won't happen, nor should it, but it would be funny.

That was never expressly stated. We're told in Battle of Gods that Goku was the second strongest opponent Beerus ever faced, and we're told that Whis was Beerus's teacher (and stronger than him), but it's never actually said that the two ever fought in any real sense. Much in the same way that Goku never fought Roshi during their training together before the 21st Budoukai. What Beerus may have been referring to in terms of strongest opponent is someone that he actually fought against, rather than someone he may have simply sparred against for training purposes.

Pretty obvious whis and vados cant join cos they would rape the other members of the opposite team leaving just whis vs vados.With the statements from dbs manga,either vados is slightly stronger or whis managed to equal her in the 1 k year gap.

Considering beerus said that there can be no one stronger than the god of destruction in said universe(whis and vados dont count,since who knows where they r from and what they r to begin with),the fighters will be weaker than beerus and champa.

As for who the 5th will be.The second strongest warrior in U7.beerus being first,goku and vegeta being third on same spot.

So the team will have possibly 4 god tiers(piccolo will proly get a huge power up) and buu for funny moments.

The 5th fighter on Beerus' team. Beerus states the 5th fighter will be the strongest guy he's ever fought. If you recall he tells Goku that he was the 2nd strongest guy he's fought and Goku and company believed Whis was the strongest. It seems Beerus doesn't include Whis and thus there's a mysterious guy out there that Beerus fought who's stronger than SSJG Goku at least.

Oh, I have the best troll answer for this question: Bardock, from Episode of Bardock, went into the past at least 1000 years, trained for 100~ years, fought Beerus and beat him. He is still alive, somewhere, training, getting stronger, thanks to an unexpected side effect of long life of the medicine the Planet Plant people gave him.

Or, you know, it will be someone new. If an egyptian god, maybe someone like Anubis, both a dog and God of Death.

I just hope they give the character some backstory. He must be amazing, he fought Beerus and didn't die. Which makes me think he's stronger than the Hakaishin, he spared Goku, but I doubt that happens frequently.

I highly doubt that with the speeches Beerus gave during his fight with Goku about how there's no one in this universe stronger than the God of Destruction (he clearly excludes Whis from these statements) and how he'd much rather use his full power than lose a fight (kind of implying he's never lost a fight). I also doubt he'd be so eager to recruit a guy who's stronger than him and has beaten him in a fight.

Beerus likely did spare him the same way he did Goku and probably for similar reasons. Those being that he received a very entertaining fight.
