Favorite Bond in the Series?
For me, it's the character development bond that Piccolo and Gohan have. I guess my decision's a little biased since Gohan is my favorite character in the anime, but I do have logical reasons. From the moment Piccolo first saw Gohan's hidden powers and started training him, there was always something there. A something that eventually grew into more of a Father/Son relationship than Gohan ever had with Goku IMO. Not only that, Gohan was the important factor of why Piccolo ultimately stopped trying to concur the world (though he'd still "be a demon"). Their bonding relationship is carried through into the Android/Cell sagas, as well as the Buu arc. I saw it in Piccolo's eyes how hurt he was when he thought Gohan was killed by Buu, that to me seemed like the look of losing one's own child, which was how strong their bond had truly been by that point. Also, while others probably won't agree with me on this, Piccolo's death scene in DBGT was for me the second best moment in the series (next to the literal GT ending). Piccolo was dying permanently to protect the Earth, but not before getting in one more conversation with Gohan, a scene that really did water my eyes.
Anyway, that's my favorite character bond in the series. Roshi and Goku's bond coming in a close second. You guys have a single favorite?

Goku and Vegeta;
because it's so unstable! 'I HATE you! You're my only reason for living! We're so in tune we move as one! You are everything I would love to be! How DARE you! You're the best!' Whoooo would a psychiatrist have a lot to say about THAT bond.
Gohan and Piccolo's likely the strongest (but not as interesting to me, it's more like a teapot ride than a rollercoaster) and its' really sweet...

Oh I ttoooottalllyyyy understand. Is there ANYTHING cuter than those two? Shame the Goku/Bulma fanfictions died back... though I keep running into tons of Goku/Bulma fans! Their bond of friendship was.. aw... and Bulma is always so accepting of everything Goku does!I liked the Goku and Bulma bond...oh, if they'd stayed together...

Anyway...back on topic...
I also liked Goku and Piccolo's bond that started in the Saiyajin Saga. I thought that it was funny that two people who wanted to kill each other ended up becoming really good friends.
I really, really need to get back into the habit of posting.

I love the Gohan and Piccolo bond! Their relationship is one of the closest in the series and I agree that it was like a father/son thing.
Yeah, I have noticed that... creepy.
Did anyone else just notice that the only reason Piccolo's really in the movies is to save Gohan? Gohan's got a stalker...

In a world of turmoil, where nothing is safe, the last remaining children of their race form an overwhelming bond; a brotherly love to the extent of death. Of course, I'm talking about Trunks and Gohan, from the doomed future; brought ever closer from the tragic death of their parents. They exist to sooth each other's pain, and are propelled forward with the desire to avenge their loved ones. It's shown throughout their time together that they care too much about one another to let either enter the battle field:
Trunks: Gohan, you can't go!
Gohan: Look, Trunks! No matter what happens, please stay here!
Trunks: What, are you crazy? No way can I let you fight those two alone! I can't let you go with your injury!
Trunks' love for Gohan is shown by the fact that he looses all traces of sanity when discovering his dead body. His maddening rage forces him to become... A Super Saiyan.
Years later, an incident between Trunks and his Mother shows how strong the bond was. I don't think that Trunks is the type to argue with his mother; he should consider himself lucky to still have her. However, when she mentions Gohan, he looses it:
Bulma: If you think throwing your life away senselessly is going to make Gohan happy, you're wrong!
Trunks: Don't talk to me about Gohan!! He was my master and my friend! What do you know?!?!
This has got to be one of the strongest bond in the series, right?

I thought about that one too. Yeah, I really think that's a pretty strong one also, but I can't say it's my favorite. Although, the way you put it makes it more interesting. Good synopsis.

Man, there are so many bonds in the series that I like. Piccolo and Gohan's is a favorite of mine. I love how Piccolo changes so much simply from that little kid. I think kids tend to do that and Gohan certainly had the heart needed to do it.
I also love Goku and Bulma. I usually write Goku and ChiChi together simply for the sake of canon but I think Goku and Bulma would have gone better together. Simply put, ChiChi treats Goku like trash in my opinion and while Bulma certainly isn't perfect, she gives him a lot more respect than ChiChi ever does.
But my favorite bond, hands down? Goku and Gohan. I think it's the best one of the series. Even if it's something little like them going fishing together or playing in the bath, I think it's adorable and in my opinion, the strongest. I see Gohan as a major Daddy's boy, most notably from the Namek Saga onward. I think what I find most amazing though is that despite that 7 year gap when Goku chose to remain dead, I didn't think the link between them dulled any. Gohan flipped out when he found out Goku was coming back for a day. Even though you didn't see them together as much after Cell, I think the few times you _did_ see them together said volumes. Not many bonds could survive a period of that long apart. I really don't think Goku would have stayed away after Cell if he didn't think it would have been doing what was best for the safety of everyone. In my opinion, I think that was the greatest sacrifice anyone could have made.
And my favorite scenes in the whole series are those little scenes of the two in the Room of Spirit and Time. My all time favorite is the two asleep on the same bed after they threw their clothes all over the room. I also think the little scenes of Goku carrying Gohan in piggy back from training were adorable. I'm a sucker for cuteness.

I have to strongly agree with you here. Son Goku & Son Gohan's bond is definitely my top favorite because of those few moments I saw them together (Specifically, the Room of Spirit and Time & the moments before the Cell Game), it really did show the whole father-son kind of bond. My favorite scene with them though, was when Son Goku was talking to Gohan before he went fight Cell. I really admired in how he believed in his own son & then sacrficed himself for the life of his own son & the others during the middle of the fight. It was really motivational.ulisa wrote:

Interestingly, and rather humourously, my favourite bond in the series is Freeza and King Cold. Soley because of what a shit father he is.
Paraphrased death of Freeza: Trunks cuts Freeza in half, then into pieces, then disintigrates the pieces for no other reason than to "do away with the litter for the sake of the environment".
King Cold: "Oh no. He killed my son. I'll just make him my new one because he killed my real son! Do you want to be my son? I'll give you candy and £500 allowance a day!! Well? I'll also let you stay up late and unblock the XXX channels!! How about it, son?
Trunks: "Okay! Sounds great! ...No! Wait! I-I mean...Hell, no! That would skew Toriyama's original intentions very badly! Not that he really cares what happens to his series!! I could say yes, but I can't!! Dammit! *badass voice*Now you die, biyutch!!"
Blows a hole through Cold and then blows up the corpse for the environment.
Trunks: *To Z-Senshi* "Hey gang!! I know that just there I seemed like a real badass asshole, but I'm really sweet and I like kitty-cats and dinner by candlelight! And I'm from the future and I'm the result of Vegeta and Bulma getting it on which would never really happen and could never be shown on-screen because it defies all logic and because it is too XXX for Dragon Ball!! Oh, shit, I just revealed stuff I shouldn't have!! But it gets revealed later anyway, so what's the point anyway?" *series ends 3 years early*

Yay! Let's hear it for the chibi Saiyan set!t-bone135 wrote:Goten and Trunks. I just like how they interact with each other. So playful.
There's definitely more logical and detailed explanations of what the most important bond in the series would be or why it happens to be somebody's favorite, but the bond between Goten and Trunks is just pure fun. I think that has some value, too.
It reminds me a lot of the attitude of the original Dragonball. I would have loved to see more of what happened with Goten and Trunks in the period between Z and GT, myself . . .
The NUMBER ONE Goten fan, and a fucking epic one at that.Goten of Japan wrote:Don't go 9... Go 10! (Go-ten. Goten. Get it? DOOD.)

Wow, I love just about every DB bond. Everybody's already covered the friendship between Piccolo and Gohan so that goes without saying.
Gokuh and Kuririn are great. Their personalities are so different and the gap in their power is huge but they still get along so well because of their common aspirations as fighters and the training they went through together under Master Roushi. It's just touching whenever we see them reunited or the way the one reacts when the other has been killed.
Gokuh and Gohan just because I'm a sucker for father/son. Gokuh's just not the kind of guy you ever expected to be a dad so it's interesting to see their interactions and how much Gohan really looks up to him. They have unlimited faith in eachother's abilities which always impresses me.
Gokuh and Chichi? Yeah, I'm sorry but this is actually my favorite couple. Not really because I think they have a wonderful loving relationship, but moreso because it's more loose and amusing. Chichi will treat him like dirt when he's alive but the moment he's dead she always swings back to missing him and saying those were the happiest times of her life. The fact that their marriage is so....normal.....that shouldn't make me all warm and fuzzy inside but it does. I really like the friendship between Gokuh and Bulma as well and how she really comes to respect him but if I try to think about that in a romantic way it just ruins it for me.

I totally came into this thread expecting to shut down an off-topic discussion over Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and the like. I have to say, I'm both relieved and disappointed at the same time.

Anyway, carry on.
If you mean to say that we're missing one of your favourite bonds, please tell us what it is. I'm pretty confident that we've gone through all of the best bonds in Dragonball Z.
There was Bulma and Vegeta that I forgot to mention, as footage is scarcely available. However, the fact that Prince Vegeta chose to have a child with a "low- life earthling" indicates just how much he loves her. The bond must be quite big, in order for him to put his attitude aside, and forget about the impression he's making on other people.
Anybody out there who agrees? No?
