Bluray Seasons Question

Post by MoltenMan » Tue Nov 24, 2015 5:40 am

Hey guys,

I've been eyeballing the DBZ bluray season sets for a while now, I currently just own the series on DVD with the Dragon Box version, but I've been tossing around the idea of buying these sets. I've tried watching clips on YouTube to get an idea of just how good the HD quality is, and I was wondering, is it the way YouTube renders this stuff or does a lot of the black lines around characters and object have an almost ghost like image to them? Almost like they're translucent? And I remember this being discussed before, and was something I noticed in YouTube clips too, but background look like water paintings. They stand out WAY more than I ever remember seeing them. Is it that bad on the actual sets and does it get any better as the sets were released?

Thanks guys!

Wait, do you have the Dragon Boxes? Yellow covers and all that? If you do, I'm pretty sure (from what I've heard) that you have the best looking versions of the show that exists right now. I have seasons 1-3 on Blu Ray at the moment, they look pretty good to me. Everything is a bit brighter and less grainy. The touch up to the audio was also good. Backgrounds do stand out a bit more. If you do own the Dragon Boxes, you might do well to stay with those for now. I'm pretty sure the Blu Rays are on sale on sites like Amazon right now though, if you're still interested. Hopefully others who know a bit more than me can help you out in that regard.

They're pretty much the same on the actual BD'S. I own all 9, they all look the same with the exception of Season 5 where the remastering goes a bit wonky in the middle of the set. I think they look good but that's just me, before these I didn't own Z at all. But since you have and the Dboxes at that, dunno I mean the Japanese audio is slightly better so that could be a reason to get them I suppose or maybe you want to preserve the use of your Dboxes? The sets are dirt cheap maybe buy one test it out if you don't fancy it you could sell it and probably make your money back.

Is there any differences between the 1st 6 seasons and the last 3 ? cause based on the pictures I saw it looks like they changed their remastering process a bit for the last 3 seasons.

It looks like there's more grain and the overall quality looks better.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

I don't own the blu-rays yet, but it's possible seen as how they were made from the same reels as the orange bricks, albeit with a better remastering process.
Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

I don't think they changed it, I think it has better masters is all, yes there is slighlty more grain in S7 onwards but it isn't that huge a difference:
