Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
I know he is a nice guy now and got some character develpoment since Buu arc.
But do some people of you miss the Vegeta who has been a cocky and an a**hole as in Namek or Cell arc.
Of course he whouldn't be evil but I would love him to mock people around as he used to have

Unfortunately Toei has him as a gag character now,at least during times o peace.

Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
Yeah, I preferred Vegeta, when he was a cocky asshole in the Cell Arc and would always get so upset, when he found out, he wasn't as hot shit as he originally thought.
The Vegeta we see in RoF, who barely even mocks Freeza, is probably how he's going to act in future battles as well.
Though in Toyotaro's Super manga, he seems to have a bit of cockiness to him, when fighting Goku, so who knows.

Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
Chances are higher for "cocky" Vegeta (and lower for "silly" Vegeta) whenever Gokû's present, imo. Vegeta gets some of his fire back when his rival's in the same room and he also refuses to look silly/uncool in front of Kakarrotto to boot.
Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
God, I sure hope not. This mellowed out and more calm Vegeta is such a nice character.
Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
Heck, I didn't even really like Vegeta as a character until the Boo saga. He was "cool" on Namek and I liked watching him fight, but I just could not like the guy during the Artificial Human/Cell arcs. To each their own, but before Super, my favorite version of Vegeta was the one who finally just admitted that Goku was his better and that there was absolutely nothing wrong with that.Doctor. wrote:God, I sure hope not. Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
I really really really (50 reallys later.) REALLY hope not. His cocky, arrogant, ego driven attitude was in my opinion the worst point of his character. It is what really made me dislike him so much. If anything, I hope he mellows out more and becomes even a little like GT Vegeta who had mellowed out and become kinda domesticated in a way. I also wanna hear Vegeta finally declare himself one of earth's warriors like he did against Super 17.
Going on hiatus. Too much stuff in RL to deal with for me to keep up with posts here for now. Was fun, hope you all have a nice day and future! Volt signing off.

Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
So this thread wants Vegeta to regress back to what he was? Undo his character development?

Cuz you can't be cocky and throw some nice asshole quotes without being evil...precita wrote:So this thread wants Vegeta to regress back to what he was? Undo his character development?
Oh wait... You can.
Again it is not about him becoming evil again or the idiotic prick he was with Cell... But a bit more cocky instead of just standing around all serious.

Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
When he's too serious without the cocky it starts bleeding into Piccolo and Tenshinhan's shtick. Vegeta needs to keep at least some of his sass to differentiate himself from the two of them. That was actually the one thing I didn't like about episode 2; Vegeta felt too much like Piccolo there.

Unless Vegeta becomes the strongest at some point in the near future I don't think we'll see him being cocky. He's too outclassed by too many people for him to be cocky.
Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
People who aren't the strongest can still be cocky. Vegeta showed the finger to the Ginyus while knowing he can do jackshit.Sora Saiyan wrote:Unless Vegeta becomes the strongest at some point in the near future I don't think we'll see him being cocky. I just loved when he played with characters and not just being all serious now.
Best scene is where he mocked Gero but I reality knew he wouldn't have won. Still he was all cocky and played a mind game

I can see him being arrogant against Freeza in the upcoming episodes

I bloody hope not. "Cocky" Vegeta died in the Majin Boo arc so that his character could develop properly. The last thing I want is for Vegeta to revert his Android/Cell arc incarnation where his arrogance and cockiness was unbearable.

Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
"Cocky" Vegeta, to a degree? Sure, I'd like to see a bit of that, in his fights and stuff, I guess. But 'I AM THE BEST Oh no I'm actually not cuz I'm getting my ass handed to me WHY AM I NOT THE BEST I WANNA BE THE BEST ARGH' Vegeta? Let's...let's leave that in the past, please.
I mean, I get that that's what a lot of people enjoy about the character, but for me, it's what makes him so insufferable whenever I go back and experience those parts of the story again. To see him have finally moved past that stale mindset has been such a godsend for me in the more recent material. I'd hate to see him regress to that fully again.

Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
Right now Vegeta is the more moderate personality between Gokuu and Vegeta, which makes their dynamic a bit more interesting. Remember how little interacting Gokuu and Vegeta did when he was running around in the Artificial Humans arc being a complete idiot? How would Gokuu have worked as a character had he been there? Vegeta's fear of Freeza is what made him so much fun during the Namek arc, that bit of fear he holds for Beers and hopefully Champa will keep him on his toes.
Besides, it's not like Vegeta's changed that much. Put another Pui-Pui in front of him and he'll do the same thing all over again.

Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
I'm surprised at how many people don't want Vegeta to be... Vegeta. His ego and cockiness were the most definable traits of the character. He cares for his family and he's acknowledged that Goku is stronger, but that shouldn't take away from his pride and personality.
As for "character development," we've gone from a Vegeta who deluded himself into believing he was the strongest, and trained to prove it, to a Vegeta who acknowledges Goku is better and is just fine lowering himself to beat him... for no reason. Back then, there was actual meaning to his desire to surpass him. Now, it's just there because... fans remember their rivalry? Better character development would be if Vegeta diverted his attention away from Goku altogether, but trained for the same reason Goku does, as well as for his family, who unlike "Kakarot," he actually visibly cares for. The irony of him actually (not temporarily) surpassing Goku while not trying to would be splendid, especially if the roles reverse and Goku trains to catch up to him. But this "#2" thing is an inevitable fixed element embedded into this caricature of the character because, silly fans, Vegeta is not MEANT to be stronger than Goku. Ya big sillies.

Nah. That's too violent. He'll knock him out. Or the villain would just ~hilariously~ retreat.JulieYBM wrote:Besides, it's not like Vegeta's changed that much. Put another Pui-Pui in front of him and he'll do the same thing all over again.

Re: Will we ever see "cocky" Vegeta again
When the time is right, I think. He had plenty of swagger in the Buu arc despite being far more grounded, by his standards at least. Heck, even as recently as 'F' we have Vegeta butting in to Goku's fight unannounced, while still being the clearer-headed number two gauging the battle from the bench like he did with Kid Buu. Are we getting a Vegeta with no emotions beyond arrogance and rage? No chance. Lest we forget, Vegeta actually tried: it didn't have the same kick that it used too. And to address the question in its own terms, Vegeta's gotten in over his head to his horror three times now; I think the trope played out.
I can't really wrap my head around the notion that Super's jokes at his expense really mean anything in that regard, though. Goku and Vegeta's being clumsy fish out of water in civilian life is well-established; Super's just elaborating on it. Heaven forbid characters adjust to their surroundings, however poorly; even Tenshinhan and Piccolo can do that much.

Evil/not evil is not the only form of character development. Him developing humility without losing his drive is his major character development in end of Boo/Super.Kishido wrote:Cuz you can't be cocky and throw some nice asshole quotes without being evil...precita wrote:So this thread wants Vegeta to regress back to what he was? The way Vegeta acted in the Cell saga was amusing but he's past that now.
