Were the Ginyu Force killed too early?
Just something I was thinking about the other day.
The Ginyus were built up to be a formidable super power and incredibly strong, only in the long run to be used to exemplify how powerful Goku had gotten. However I must ask, why?
The Ginyu force are some of the only B villains that had extremely memorable traits (Raditz, Nappa, Zarbon, Dodoria, 19, 20, Babidi's henchmen etc. were all very forgettable) and to simply be used as fodder seems so strange.
I'm aware these B villains exist for the sole purpose of hyping up the main heroes and sometimes villains in DB, that's just how it is, but they were so unique to the series that it seems such a waste
Do you guys think the Ginyu Force should have been given more screen time? Should they have been more of a threat to Goku? Would you have expanded their roles as villains to provide more build up to the fight with Freeza? Or do you think they ran their course perfectly in the show and there was nothing more that could be done and perhaps there was very little that could be done with the limited options the heroes had on Namek?

I thought it was amusing Jeice got to survive for awhile and wasn't killed right away. I think their popularity is why TOEI brought them back for filler on King Kai's planet and why Ginyu is returning in Super.

I thought they had the right amount of screentime. Their ultimate purpose in the story was to help rack up Vegeta's body count on Namek and make Goku look like a badass. If any of the Ginyu force members had remained when Freeza was battling the Z-Fighters, I would have felt that they had overstayed their welcome.

Yes, it was unfortunate that Toriyama made the coolest villains in the series, only to kill them off before they had a chance to really shine, the goofballs they were.

Agreed. The only possible way I could have seen something working into the Freeza battle is if things in the Goku body swap battle played out a bit different;y. Say, Vegeta and the others had actually been just strong enough to overwhelm Freeza's first form, and Ginyu, loyal soldier that he is, sacrificed himself to serve as a distraction for Vegeta so Freeza could transform uninterrupted.Lord Beerus wrote:I thought they had the right amount of screentime. But that would also mean we'd completely lose any chance of Ginyu vs. Saiyaman in Super, sooooo, not worth it.

Yes. As a kid I never thought much about em but as an adult, I now think they killed them off way too quickly.
I feel they should've been more of a threat like Zarbon & Dodoria. Tho I think we were supposed to see them as a joke, what with them being a parody of Super Sentai and all.
