Super DVD/BD Japan Sales
Super DVD/BD Japan Sales
Here are 1st week sales of Dragon Ball Super, little disappointing to be honest, especially comparing to BoG/F sales, but, I'm sure it will get better when Universe 6 saga come. http://myanimelist.net/news/43585450

Re: Super DVD/BD Japan Sales
There is already some discussion on this in the Official Announcements thread. I don't personally think it is fair to compare movie sales to sales of a long-running series that just started.

Re: Super DVD/BD Japan Sales
The series is pretty much pointless to buy at this point (unless you're a collector), in my opinion. Super's pretty much just a slightly expanded Battle of Gods and Revival of F at this point, and that's probably why DVD/Blu-ray sales are pretty poor. I'm sure the second release's sales with Universe 6 will be better, though.

Re: Super DVD/BD Japan Sales
High sales typically go to Otaku series with higher production values. Dragon Ball Super exists based on merchandise as sold by Bandai and is planned to run as a commercial for a long as possible, so it makes sense for it not to be a high-selling series that has any value.
Re: Super DVD/BD Japan Sales
I'm not sure how good the sales are compared to other similiar series but it was a given that it wouldn't sell anything like the movies.
Re: Super DVD/BD Japan Sales
Sales for animation home videos for the last decade or so are on someanithing.
Re: Super DVD/BD Japan Sales
There is nothing to indicate that sales are poor, though. Long running series in general don't sell as well as movie DVDs, but that is expected. It is a much bigger investment only made by collectors.DoomieDoomie911 wrote:The series is pretty much pointless to buy at this point (unless you're a collector), in my opinion. Sales are fine for the first week. Plus these are not supposed to sell like the movies anyway because they are ridiculously priced and most of the people rent rather than buy them. So over a thousand in one week is pretty good.

I know that it wasn't expected to sell as good as the movies. I was just saying that I'm sure that sales will pick up once (the first part?) of Universe 6 gets released.irreality wrote:There is nothing to indicate that sales are poor, though. Re: Super DVD/BD Japan Sales
The series is more focus on merchandise sales then any home video sales. Only the hardcore fans and sometimes parents will buy the shows on DVD and Blu-Ray, but toy sales is where it's at for Dragon Ball.

Japanese homes are small. Home video-buying is only for fans who find value in a series.
Re: Super DVD/BD Japan Sales
I'm a bit out of loop so this has been answered somewhere most likely but is the animation getting improved/fixed in DVD and BD release like many other Toei shows get?

Yes. I'm not sure exactly how much they've been improved, but I've seen a couple of comparisons online. (I'm sure there have been plenty of comparisons on the various Super threads on this forum, too, but I don't read them.)Basaku wrote:I'm a bit out of loop so this has been answered somewhere most likely but is the animation getting improved/fixed in DVD and BD release like many other Toei shows get?
