A particular piece of background music...

Post by Cheshire » Fri Apr 21, 2006 9:16 pm

There's a piece of background music I really love, and I was wondering if it was on any of the CD's.

It's a really stirring, hopeful piece of music. It's played in episode 96, at the end of the episode, when Goku is making his "Legendary Super Saiya-jin" speech to Freeza. It plays a couple of other times throughout the series that I remember, but this is the only one that I have an episode number for.

Thanks!

This is the one that I've dubbed "Dun Dun Dun" :).

The only CD it seemingly appears on is the first Ongakushû. It's within the BGM track for DBZ movie 3 (Chikyû Marugoto Chô-Kessen). Disgustingly, it wasn't included on either the 5-CD-set or the recent BGM Collection (3-CD-set).

Well, at least it IS on one of the CDs. I'm much more disgusted at all the other great pieces omitted in every / any CD released until now...

Yeah... I kinda wonder why, since it's such a great piece, the only CD that has it is Ongakushu vol. 1. And yes, lots of people have followed suit after Mike and refer to this piece as "Dun Dun Dun", though I personally like to call it "A Sign Of Hope". Believe me Cheshire, you'll want to get Ongakushu vol. 1 (try here), because I'm pretty sure it's a stereo mix as there's this really cool "sff sff sff" noise accompanying the beat when it gets into the real buildup, which I as I recall can't be heard in the piece in the TV series or Movie 3, since they were recorded in mono.

Whew boy, "disgusted" is definifitely the word for my thoughts on the unreleased BGM. Just you wait until I finish my documentation project (yeah, I know it seems like I've abandoned it for a while, but I really do have a lot of episodes written down - it's just a matter of bringing myself to actually WANT to convert it into the HTML charts...). I've been working on the original DragonBall, and that series is absolutely caked in unreleased BGM.

BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

I was afraid that it hadn't been released at all. I will definitely be picking it up...as soon as I get out of this "poor college student surviving on ramen" phase.

Popping in the CD and listening to it like it's supposed to be is way more rewarding that downloading any MP3... But that's just my opinion :P

I'm kind of hoping they release a Dragon Ball BGM set that goes with the one released for Z in February. They'll never put every piece, I know, but it'd be nice to have some tracks not found in the Daizenshuu set for example...

Yeah but putting up some low quality samples might be just the enticement needed to make the purchase. Heck, maybe some hard core dubbies who swear they hate the jp version might make a conversion.

That, I agree with. In fact here's a SAMPLE of Dun Dun. It's under a minute in length (not the full version) and it's in reduced quality as well (128 Kbps). If you like it - which I bet you will, buy the CD. It's not expensive and it's really worth getting. :P
