Who are your most/least favorite designed characters?
Who are your most/least favorite designed characters?
I'm speaking of course from a thoroughly aesthetic point of view. Not personality/depth wise.
Favorites:
Raditz/Nappa/Vegeta: It really just comes down to that armor and hair (or in Nappa's case lack of). It's so creative and iconic. I also like how distinct all their sizes are and how as the battle goes on their armor just whittles away. That panel of Nappa and Vegeta arriving on Earth is an image that will never leave my mind.
Freeza Final Form: I love the idea of the most powerful opponent being the sleekest and most meek. It makes them seem even more effective as a design with less edges makes a character seem faster and more precise. Ergo a more effective killer.
Least Favorites:
17/18: Literally just two teenage punks. I like the eyes though.
Beerus: I get that it's supposed to be a reference to the ancient Egyptian cat gods like Bastet, but to me it just came off as lazy and frankly not to visually interesting. Love the character though.

How do you get into the Ginyu Force? With a letter of RECOOMEndation!
Re: Who are your most/least favorite designed characters?
I'm the complete opposite. The design of Beerus is probably now my favorite character design. I'm sure he would have looked even better back in the days of traditional animation.. damn, one can just imagine.
Least favorite, probably Goten. He's just too much like Goku.

Re: Who are your most/least favorite designed characters?
1st Form Frieza, Perfect Cell & Majin Boo, specifically Gotenks-Boo
Frieza was regal, Perfect Cell was just majestic while Gotenks-Boo was uber-cool
Might also add M8 Broly, Base Bojack, M10 SSJ Broly & Super Janemba (super badass like Super Boo)
As for heroes, gotta go with Cell~Boo Arc Son Goku. There's this air of calmness & subtle over-confidence in his design which I admired
Majin Veggie is another instant fav.
As for least fav, gotta be Beerus & Omega Shenron. Toilet tissue would have an even more interesting design than those 2

Re: Who are your most/least favorite designed characters?
Favourites: Final Form Freeza - Toriyama was right when he said it was so great on its own, the only way to improve on it was to change the colour. It's simplistic, but not too basic, and a lot of his traits can still be seen in it.
Future Trunks - I don't know how Toriyama managed to make a combination of weird 90's clothes look cool, but he did. Somehow. And his Super Saiyan design always looked awesome. He's also one of the few characters where you can see both his parents in his design.
Piccolo Daimao (Old) - He looks so intimidating for such an evil villain. And considering how...generic...the Red Ribbon Army villain designs felt sometimes (because they all looked human), it was such a unique design at the time. The old wrinkled skin, the antennae, the eyes...it really stood out.
Son Gohan (High School) - Toriyama managed to use clothes to show us character - that one of the strongest beings of the universe is also a massive dork. And it didn't look jarring. He was really careful not to show off his muscles, while at the same time not removing them altogether (looking at you, Track Suit).
Least Favourite: Dabura - something just seems off about his design. The cape is cool but...what's with the random belt buckle? It makes his design look oddly modern. And the blue of his outfit kind of clashes with his skin.
General White - just feels forgettable.
Ultimate Gohan - boring, bland, trying way too hard to look like Goku 2.0. And the eyes don't look that good sometimes. It makes him look like he's perpetually surprised.
Recoome - Why does he look so much like a human? I can't remember if Toriyama ever coloured him, but...he still looks like a human. It doesn't help that he plays the exact same role of Nappa, another big, burly, human-looking character. The other Ginyu Force members look at least somewhat interesting, but he just blends in.
I can probably think of more, but that's all for now.

I could have gotten into anything...and yet I chose the story aimed at young Japanese boys about martial arts, and later about super-powerful aliens punching each other really hard.

Favorites:
-1st form Freeza - super creative, creepy, and threatning. Really makes you feel something when you see him for the first time.
-base Goteks - The black/purple hair looks amazing
-SS4 Goku - I'd say it's my favorite out of all, just amazing.
-Future Trunks (Capsule Corp Jacket and sword) - Well.... He has a sword
-Kuririn (BoG) - Unique design, I like that the outfit, while different from the past, still features the Kame kanji, and the hair really looks good on him.
Great Saiyaman - Can't explain why, but I love it
Least Favorites:
Cell Games era & Ultimate Gohan - Just a copy of Piccolo/Goku, pointless and boring
Transformed Garlick Jr./LSS Broly/Super #13 - boring super-muscled guys
Super #17 - I really don't like it. The long hair, weird cloths, it's just ugly.

Favorite:
Piccolo - I love the his vaguely middle eastern outfit. The turban, exaggerated shoulders, and cape give him such a distinct look. He's got a tall, imposing figure, but with an outfit that sort of represents his reserved personality. The colors are awesome as well. The purple softens the loudness of his green body. The red sash around his waist complements his red wristband-like wrists. And the white cloth of his turban and cape give him a sort of tranquil look that once again works with his reserved personality.
Least Favorite:
I've said this before and I'll say it again; I hate Super Android 13's design. His colors are loud and obnoxious. His physique is yet another bland roided up figure (akin to Broly). And the worst aspect of his design for me, personally, is that none of it communicates that this creature is in any way robotic, apart from some lazy grey patches on his body. 13 could've been an alien or a demon, and not much of his design would've been changed.

Yeah I don't like their new designs either. How can you possibly like Gohan's as DBZ fan?? They feel simplified like they were specifically made less intricate to make it easier to animate and the animation budget cheaper.Lord Beerus wrote:So are Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, Gohan and everyone else who was a part of the main series prior to Super.TheMikado wrote:They are part of the Super Series/ timeline. Re: Who are your most/least favorite designed characters?
My favorites would have to be Gohan, Piccolo, Chiaotzu, Future Trunks, Android 17 and 18, and Vegeta. You get everything you need to know about those characters at very first glance. Gohan's in particular is excellent as it evolves to reflect his development as he grows up:
My least favorites are probably Bra/Bulla, Android 19, Bojack, Nappa, and Garlic Jr. These guys are all either unoriginal or ridiculous looking for me.
