Will you buy Super if future movies will retell its story?

Post by coola » Fri Mar 04, 2016 3:24 pm

If future DB Movies will tell same story Super does, will you still buy Super? First two arcs in my opinios are much worse retellings of BoG and F, so, if next movie will tell story of Tournament and then other universes, there really is no point for me to get Super at all, having both movies nad manga versions.

I'd say yes because collecting, but I'd probably watch the movies more. Still, it'd have to wait until Super reaches North America. I can't afford the expensive Japanese box sets at the moment, especially since I'm already trying to get the Z Dragon Boxes.

Yup. I'm a shameless collector, I don't mind owning two different versions of (essentially) the same story. Still it would be nice if future Dragon Ball movies focused on original plots and new characters again.

Yeah I will, sure it's been flawed but it's not so bad that I won't buy it.

The RF movie had superior production quality but the story was lacking compared to the arc especially the ending and Vegeta's role so as a Vegeta fan there's no way I won't buy it cause EP27 is probably my favorite episode in the entire franchise.

I'm beginning to think that'll be best, a Champa movie version would look 10× better then the arc but the basic story and characters would be the same so it won't add anything to the DB world like Z's movies did, Sure they had simple plots but the added characters and stories made the Z part of the story feel a lot bigger then it was.

I'll be happy with a Champa movie but happier with an original movie.

Better animation alone is enough reason to buy it.

Probably so just because I'm one of those people that likes to have a complete story, like the slice of life episodes bridging the arcs together.

Yeah, probably so. It's gonna be better animated so that'll make it good alternative of the original story in Super by default.

Really? I mean, I liked that episode too because the ending was far better than movie, but the Resurrection F retelling as a whole was pretty bad, so I think that was a really bold statement to make.

Absolutely, because being a librarian-in-training collecting is my passion. Even though I'll more than likely watch the movies much more, it will still be nice to have the Super editions too.

I've always wanted to see Vegeta defeat a main villain which is exactly what I got here and unlike the movie Freeza was in control of his fight with Goku and he put his Sorbet plan in motion before Goku could do anything to him so him losing to Vegeta afterwords had more of an impact.

The story was also a big improvement over the movie's cause we got to see a lot more of Freeza's dirty side, some more insight on Goku & Vegeta's training, how Vegeta got his ssjb form, who's idea it was to go train with Whis and like you said the improved ending.

To be honest I think retelling BoG and R F was the biggest mistake they could have done. It's confusing to the fandom to be honest. I remember they said that BoG was cannon to the Dragon Ball Manga (not anime) and such the story that happens a few years after Buu's defeat but of course before the last episode of Z. BoG in itself basically made the last episode of Z non-canon simply given Bra and Pan's age. Another topic for another time.

Anyways the only reason I believe they even retold those two films in Super wasn't just to say officially they are canon (anime wise) but was to add fluff so they could start the show now and not wait a year for the manga to put out enough content for episodes. Honestly if this was the plan after F to retell those two films in episode form in super they did a really crappy job of it. Seriously I got way turned off form Super after episode 6 and while I did catch up and watched up to 28 I think I'm having a really hard time giving it a chance.

It's not just the animation issues but the plot holes and the way they have taken things. Bulma looks younger than she did in Buu Saga, Trunks and Goten are still 7 and 8? It seriously is bad, but to the point if they did try to make film versions of the current saga or after it would do badly. Even with a higher budget fans wouldn't like it because it be like we've seen this already. That has been my biggest issue with Super so far. So no if they did do films retelling more of Super I wouldn't buy them. I don't think they will do that. I think if most they would do new stories which then later would get retold in Super to add more fluff in the event they catch up to the manga. I suppose anything can happen at this point. I am just shocked how poorly they have handled Super given how big Dragon Ball is all over the world.
