Anybody know anything about the Filipino English dub?
I'm a fan of the whole franchise who has a passion for the infamous Big Green and Speedy dubs. However, I recently found clips of a Filipino English dub on YouTube, and I want to know what people know about it. I'm not expecting many answers, due to this dub being so obscure that it doesn't even have a page on the DB Wiki, but I'd like to know when it was recorded, if it was good or bad, and if there were any amusing name changes. So does anyone have any info on this dub I should know?

DBZ Movies 5 and 6 are on the internet...somewhere...
Unfortunately, the sound quality of these copies are very low, so it's not a fair comparison in the slightest.
More commonly found is the Filipino dub's soundtrack, "Songs of a High Spirited Saga".
The acting is better than the Malaysian dub (though that's not saying much) and the AB Groupe "Big Green" dub, though not to the level of the newer Funi stuff and DBZ Abridged. I don't remember Goku being worried about Oolong's appetite in the original, especially since by all accounts Goku should be the one with the bigger appetite. Some of the Filipino dub lines are fairly clever, like where Chichi talks about breaking glass as a "new hobby" inspired by her husband's antics.
Apparently a trailer for newer movies exists somewhere on the internet as well.

I managed to get a copy of movie 6, however it's very low quality but it's better than nothing.
I still haven't got round to watching it but I think the actings fairly decent, here's a clip I uploaded: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN9MHxpjxhk
I love the songs made for this dub, even zenkai power was adapted well! I wish I could find the tv series dub for this (allegedly the dub ran for the entirety of DB and the first 30 or so episodes of DBZ)

Thomas, was that from a VCD? I was under the impression VCDs had better quality than that but needless to say, the dub from that sample didn't sound bad.thomas1up wrote:I managed to get a copy of movie 6, however it's very low quality but it's better than nothing.

P.S. There are some Speedy Dub VCDs on eBay. Overpriced but still worth a look for its artwork and I do remember that there was once a complete (or mostly complete) batch of the Speedy Dub a year ago on eBay sold for £30. Huh, interestingly someone on eBay bought a Speedy Dub VCD of the Freeza arc/episodes. Wonder how Freeza sounds.
Re: Anybody know anything about the Filipino English dub?
I find it interesting that it seems like the only speedy vcds on eBay are of the series proper, even though only the movies can be found on YouTube. Somebody should buy those and post their contents on the internet. Even if they are horrible (and I'm sure they will be), it would be interesting to watch a series dub which Funi had no involvement in.
Edit: How long did the Speedy dub last for in the series again, and did it end after the Speedy company thought to themselves, "Hey! This Saban dub is much more competently done than our own. Let's get the rights to distribute the episodes we haven't dubbed."?
It would explain the Saban DBZ logo on that Freeza VCD...

I believe it's from a VHS rip from years and years ago that has been encoded poorly, the actual quality of the movie itself is a lot better, infact one of the directors uploaded the credits which shows the masters are still in good conditon https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuZbM2sfJi8Iberian_Saiyan wrote:Thomas, was that from a VCD? Those speedy VCDs are ocean dub bootlegs, AFAIK Speedy only dubbed the first 3 DB films and the first 13 DBZ films.
I managed to snab the speedy dub of the 3rd DBZ movie (Tree of Might) on ebay about a year ago, they're rare but they will pop up from time to time, here's what the case looks like.Danfun64 wrote:I find it interesting that it seems like the only speedy vcds on eBay are of the series proper, even though only the movies can be found on YouTube. The Saban dub skipped the Gohan and the robot episode. So what is this? http://m.ebay.com/itm/Dragon-Ball-Z-5-V ... nav=SEARCHthomas1up wrote:Those speedy VCDs are ocean dub bootlegs, AFAIK Speedy only dubbed the first 3 DB films and the first 13 DBZ films.

Re: Anybody know anything about the Filipino English dub?
I'm fairly certain that is just English Subs on Japanese Video, I remember reading that somewhere.....Danfun64 wrote:The Saban dub skipped the Gohan and the robot episode. Regardless I almost want to buy them just for the covers.... look fucking awesome even if they don't have anything to do with the episode itself
Also heres the trailer for Broly fillipino dub: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZfPulNM3Ek

Re: Anybody know anything about the Filipino English dub?
You are wrong, the Speedy VCDs of the tv series are the old Ocean English Dub. No subtitles what so ever. No point in guessing if you don't know.thomas1up wrote:I'm fairly certain that is just English Subs on Japanese Video, I remember reading that somewhere.....Danfun64 wrote:The Saban dub skipped the Gohan and the robot episode. Re: Anybody know anything about the Filipino English dub?
How could it possibly be the Ocean Dub if Ocean never dubbed the episode? As well as the fact that is the only VCD with the Japanese name, don't make a bold statement outright saying my assumption is wrong if you have no evidence to back it up.ZodaEX wrote:You are wrong, the Speedy VCDs of the tv series are the old Ocean English Dub. Re: Anybody know anything about the Filipino English dub?
Sorry to bump this...
I believe this dub is the Creative Product Corp dub.
They dubbed the first 30 DBZ episodes, part of DB, and combined movies 5 and 6 into one movie.
Does this help?

Creative Products Corp. dubbed the "Greatest Rivals" movie (Revenge of Cooler + Return of Cooler) while Solar Home Entertainment dubbed "Dragonball Z: The Movie" (Broly's Second Coming + Bio-Broly). I remember the Broly movies being aired on both RPN 9 and Solar Movies when I was a kid.
I could digitize these copies if only I had the proper devices; I'm poor, so... lol

Re: Anybody know anything about the Filipino English dub?
Be very careful with those! We don't want to be stuck with a horribly compressed RealMedia file for the former and a trailer for the latter. For the love of god, when you get the right equipment, transfer those ASAP, and if possible get one of the S-VHS/D-VHS decks suggested here, along with a good capture setup as suggested from here and here...though if your computer is too new,you should keep this in mind...
...that being said, considering how rare these are, almost anything would be better than what we have now, so if you'd rather do a cheaper or more straight-forward method like a dvd recorder or similar, go ahead!
