Do you think Toriyama changed Buu's origin for a reason.
Do you think Toriyama changed Buu's origin for a reason.
So, around the time BoG was released Toriyama gave us that tidbit about Buu not being created by Bobidi, but rather having existed since "time immemorial".
Do you think he changed Buu's origin at the same time that new content was starting to come out because he plans to expand on it in Super, or do you think it was just a random Toriyama musing?
Personally I got a bit excited when they brought Buu to the U6 tournament because I thought something might actually come of it, doesn't look like anything will though.

Maybe he noticed how similar Buu and Cell are to each other so he decided to change it up which was a very welcome change for me.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

I just think that, off-the-cuff, he decided to think something up to pad out one of the promotional interviews for the Buu arc of Kai.
He's done it before and he'll do it again - if you put Toriyama on the spot over something in-Universe related, he's unlikely to traipse through his own work to mesh together some kind of consistency, but instead will probably just make something up.
I think the biggest inconsistency about Buu is how Whis and Beerus apparently have no idea about him, or at least, don't recognise him during their encounters - but Freeza, on the other hand, seemed to know all about him, despite the fact that by the time he was born Buu was surely nothing more than a legend.

Arcs 1-6 = weakest to strongest Earth's villains
Arcs 7-8 = weakest to strongest Universe's villains
Arc 9 = Earth's best scientist creates strongest villain so far
Arc 10 = Universe's best "scientist" creates strongest villain so far

My signature actually kinda explains it:

I think it's his umpteenth forgetfulness
Re: Do you think Toriyama changed Buu's origin for a reason.
The thing is though, he referenced the original origin and said it was wrong. So he didn't forget it, he remembered it and intentionally retconned it.
Hopefully it wasn't just to explain why Buu slept through the Frieza arc.

I like it since it makes Buu to be more original instead another lab creation type of character. I like the idea of Buu feeding off evil across the universe for millions of years.

I like the change. I always found it silly that a character like Bibidi created Majin Buu despite he was barely able to control him. So the fact that he conjured a way to tame him to a degree as his tool for conquest makes a lot more sense. Much akin that I always found it silly that Namekians were the ones who created the original Dragon Balls which had the ability to grant any wish, instead we find out that they had just carved out tiny pieces of the Super Dragon Balls to create their own Dragon Balls. So yeah, i welcome both these ideas respectably. That said, I'm sure Toriyama wasn't putting much thought when he mentioned this in the interview, much akin to many other q/a's he has done.
