Why Gohan is so weak in DB Super? No more mystic?

It seems that beetween Buu saga and Ressurection of F saga is like 5 years break right?

Is 5 years enough to make Mystic Gohan unable to even SSJ2? While 5 years was exactly the time between Cell Game and Broly's Revenge, Gohan had no problems to turn into SSJ2 again, weaker yeah, but still.

Why he cant Mystic again?

While Mystic form is at least 10x stronger than SSJ2, and even if Gohan didnt trained and huge part of his power was coming from Supreme Kai help, but still there should be much power left in him, just like Goku after fusing into Vegito, even after fusion end, Goku admitted it unlocked a bit power in him.

He couldnt even handle Frieza in base form, ok I know the problem is we still dont know the power level of Golden Frieza and SSJ Blue, but if thats the straight continuation of DBZ, then they cant be stronger than 30% of Buutenks/Mystic , if we look how the power levels grew in DBZ.

One thing is sure - Vegito > nothing > Goku ssjb kaoiken, golden frieza's, vegetas etc

While Frieza is the same as Hit - he never needed to improve even once, but it still hurts when Gohan cant even handle Frieza.


Maybe because adult Gohan would be too much competition for Vegeta, who cant even catch Goku, he could not survive this feeling that even kakarot's son is stronger than him ... again... But, hmmm, I'm not sure.

Gohan has become weak because Toriyama currently doesn't have an plans for him in regards to contributing to the main story of Super. And with Toriyama not having much in store for him, Gohan has been left at the mercy of Toei who want to make sure that you forget all about Ultimate/Mystic/Super Gohan. But as soon as Toriyama has something big cooked up for him plot-wise, he'll become a Super Saiyan Blue off screen.

If we're strictly speaking In-Universe, Gohan just stopped training after the Majin Boo arc and at some time after Battle Of Gods, the effects of not training eventually took it's toll on him and he lost his Ultimate/Mystic power up.

Just checked the EP 23 summary and this is what is stated:

Still beaten to a pulp and emotionally devastated, Gohan reflects on how now that he’s gone so long without fighting, he no longer has the power to protect everyone. If only he had continued his training like Goku and the others, then Piccolo wouldn’t have died. Kuririn responds that there’s nothing wrong with that; it’s only natural to prioritize family over fighting. Hearing that Gohan is a family man, Freeza promises to wipe out his family in the blink of an eye. Gohan says he must stop Freeza in order to protect his family, and begins powering up. While he briefly becomes a Super Saiyan once again, ultimately Gohan’s body is too worn out to handle the power; he reverts back to his normal form and seems to lose consciousness.

I guess that's because his strength isn't needed anymore and he doesn't care about being the strongest in the world. No more "mystic" because he neglected his training. Super Saiyan is the his current way to get stronger unless Rou Kaioshin's powers are needed again.

One idea that I really liked from someone on here was that Gohan went through numerous hours of meditation to unlock his Ultimate form. The theory was that he needed to continue intense meditation frequently to keep up at that power. He wouldn't have time to do that as an academic scholar and a father.

Well if Gohan did train, it would probably make plot difficult especially since his powers were unlocked by Elder Kai himself.

Him not being able to use his unlocked potential is ok. I don't like it but I can understand him losing it from lack of training. Him losing the ability to transform into a SS2 is what I'm confused and off about. He could still use it after 7 years in the Boo saga. Then he became even stronger and it had an even shorter time skip than the previous one and now he suddenly can barely even transform into a regular SS. The least they could do is give him SS2.
