Dragonball Z VHS SRP: $2.99?

Post by Tanooki Kuribo » Sun May 07, 2006 10:25 pm

I think the SRP of Dragonball VHS's might just be $2.99. I went to BigLots and saw a lot of Cell Games and The Return Of Cooler VHS's for $2.99. I thought alright, its BigLots so maybe thats why it's so damn cheap Then I go to Toys R Us on Sunday and see the same thing. So, I thought that was odd. I know VHS is pretty much useless now but there was a recent video on this forum where a certain someone was showing off his VHS tapes, so I guess people do still use them. :?

At my local Dollar General, they're $2 a tape. They mostly have Majin Buu eps. but hey, $2! VHS! Cool!
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

That's really sad. I mean, it's really good if you want to collect the entire series (dub only, on VHS), but it's DBZ! Surely it's worth more than that! :( You know, at least $5.99...
What's scarier than a DBZ H-game?

Odd, the Big Lots here is charging only $1 per tape. I picked up $25 worth of DBZ/GT tapes around Christmas. :P

^ My thoughts exactly. It's not that DBZ is becoming worthless, it's that the VHS format is worthless. I'd rather just buy the DVD for $15 than the VHS for $1 or whatever. Dead technology. But hey, if you still buy VHS, then I guess you're in luck...

The last time I bought a VHS tape was the first Brolli movie. And it was the Mexican-Spanish dub. >_> Probably the only reason I'd buy VHS tapes. Other than that, my money's better spent on the Japanese DVDs, seeing as how I don't exactly prefer the FUNimation English dub. So there's no point in buying a dub-only tape, for me. :s

I only buy FUNi's uncut DVDs so I can get the dub and a subtitled Japanese version.

That being said, I've seen GT DVDs at Bargain Giant for five canadian bucks each. Unfortunately I already had them all. I did find a Z one from the Cell Games Saga, though. Guardian's Return. The one where we see Tao Pai Pai again and Dende becomes Kami-sama.

I would probably only buy the tapes for the season 2 episodes that I don't have just to see with the Ocean voices again.

I found a used Ocean dvd at Suncoast last week...I don't see why people would still buy the VHS's since they only have the dub on them anyway.

I never got any VHS dbz tapes cuz I didn't have a job (constant income of money) til long after VHS had been scrapped for dvd.
On hiatus.

Well, if you're only into the dub, or you're buying some filler (in which case, seeing the JP version makes no difference (to me, at least)), then I'd buy the tapes. Of course, I did one of the stupidest moves in my DBZ fan history and bought not only Gohan's transformation into SSJ2, but Goku's transformation to SSJ3, the first fusion of Gotenks, and the death of Cell on VHS! Of course, this was way back when DVDs were rare. Now I wanna go out and buy DVDs of those eps, so I guess my post became two-sided. :?...

Back in the day when I didnt know the awsomeness of the original Japanese, I bought Funi's uncut VHS's, stayed on top of all their release dates and would get them everytime one came out.

Then after while I got off the Anime scene, but I still have all those VHS's in my closet, I know I am missing some, and if I ever come across some like I did at Wal-Mart last week (they were for $1) then I would pick them up.

But also I still collect laserdisc's :D

I have the "Arrival" VHS, which was the first 4 episodes of the Dragonball Z Ocean Dub.

But I don't even have a VCR.

I had every single FUNimation VHS release of DB and DBZ. I bought them the day they came out and sometimes earlier. The problem with VHS is the quality and accessibility is so much worse than DVD. I sold the entire collection on eBay for a good $600. I guess someone out there still has a working VCR....

^ Same here, I have all the Funi VHS's, and for my Jap version needs have fansubs, but now that I can afford it I am in the process of buying the Funi boxed sets.

Might have to take all my VHS to Ebay, I have been tracking some DBZ VHS sets on ebay and they do seem to be selling, so I guess there is still some sort of market.
