So how is Mai not middle-aged?
She mentioned in the movie RoF that she was forty-something, didn't she?
That would make her over sixty in Trunks' future, which is 17 years from the main timeline.
Would Toei and Toriyama really skip such a major detail as making her the right age? The wish that rejuvenated her and the Pilaf gang never took place in Trunks' timeline, now did it? Lol

Re: So how is Mai not middle-aged?
It's possible they wished for youth before the android ordeal, and the dragon turned them into infants, which is more or less the same age Trunks was at the time.
"Dragon Ball once became a thing of the past to me, but after that, I got angry about the live action movie, re-wrote an entire movie script, and now I'm complaining about the quality of the new TV anime. It seems Dragon Ball has grown on me so much that I can't leave it alone." - Akira Toriyama on Dragon Ball Super

I am expecting no explaination from Toriyama/Toei at all. I feel this thread will be full of pointless headcanon.

Its a different timeline with different happenings, one for example is in Trunks' timeline Goku was the one that killed Freeza. One small difference can cause a lot of changes, they coulda wished for youth before the androids went rampage.

They most likely got wish back as babies when they made their wish to be younger again. How they survived from being killed from #17 and #18 is still a mystery though.

I think we need to wait and see if they'll explain it or not. The arc isn't out yet. However it's pretty clear to see it seems we all think they're not gonna explain it. They didn't explain it in the Battle of Gods arc, so we might not get an answer. Infant theory makes no sense to me as I'm pretty sure they'd end up dying if they turned into infants. Also I'm pretty sure the two timelines were the same til Trunks showed up.

Well, it's not as if they specifically sought them out. For as many people the Jinzoningen killed, just as many managed to survive or escape.Hellspawn28 wrote:They most likely got wish back as babies when they made their wish to be younger again. Thing is, I had the impression that the timelines only diverged thanks to Trunks coming back through time - before the date of his arrival everything should be the same, so no wish for youth by Pilaf & the gang could have taken place.

I'm still getting used to Mai no longer having blue eyes, but I think they were black in the manga.Jaden wrote:Can you spot the difference?

That's what I think. And logically it makes. Sense. I don't believe the Dragon balls where used by the Z fighters in the period when Goku defeats Freeza and when he got his heart virus.Saturnine wrote:Thing is, I had the impression that the timelines only diverged thanks to Trunks coming back through time - before the date of his arrival everything should be the same, so no wish for youth by Pilaf & the gang could have taken place.
Re: So how is Mai not middle-aged?
I am thinking its just the new art style. Even Future Bulma looks kind young. Future Trunks looks younger than he did in Z too.Not to mention bulma's older sister look like a teenager.

Mai looks cute. She's probably gonna die because Future Trunks can never be happy.Jaden wrote:Can you spot the difference?

Re: So how is Mai not middle-aged?
They must have wished for youth before the arrival of the androids. This was already more or less confirmed by their surprise at the dragon granting multiple wishes, though no one cared to comment at the time.
They wouldn't necessarily have had to become infants. Even if they were biologically three or so, that'd put them within a few years of Trunks' age by the time they reappear in the series.
This isn't even remotely a problem.

You're assuming Shu and Pilaf are alive in this time line... I'm not so sure.Hellspawn28 wrote:They most likely got wish back as babies when they made their wish to be younger again. How they survived from being killed from #17 and #18 is still a mystery though.

Re: So how is Mai not middle-aged?
It could also be the art style as well being the problem worsening age inconsistency. I mean Bulma in that preview looks a lot younger than she was in the original series from that timeline. Though this could be intentional, while an inconsistency.
Zephyr wrote:The fandom's collective fetishizing of "moments" is also ridiculous to me. No, not everyone needs a fucking "shine" moment. If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

What I want to know is: does anyone get the underlying creepy implications of this pairing on the writing side? I mean, I've seen some shit from comics but this is still a weird creative choice lol. Seems like Trunks gets em either really young (Pan) or really old (Mai).
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

Trunks is a pedophile and likes cougars. What didn't you know that about his character?ekrolo2 wrote:What I want to know is: does anyone get the underlying creepy implications of this pairing on the writing side?
