AnimeNext 2006

Post by VegettoEX » Sat May 20, 2006 10:47 pm

Yooooooooosh~! It's about time!

AnimeNext takes place from June 16th to 18th here in New Jersey. As with every year, we shall be attending and taking over! Well, maybe not taking over... but working hard and hardly working.

We'd like to know who all is going to be coming out to join the party. I'd prefer this thread to be more of a listing rather than a discussion; that can always happen elsewhere. I mostly need a quick, at-a-glance cheat-sheet to see who's gonna be around.

If you're coming:

- What days are you going to be around?
- Are you staying over, and can therefore be out late?
- Are you of legal drinking age?

We want to record an episode, and have a bunch of you all around to have fun during the show. We also want to play video games and chill like a bunch of DBZ nerds.

So start responding! Please don't respond to say you're not coming, though... that's irrelevant and will be deleted. Thanks!

Let's see...well first I'd like to thank you in regards of my search of the DBZ BGM Collection CD.

-I'm gonna be there Saturday morning (9am) till 10pm at max (hopefully).
-No, I'm not staying over.
-Sadly, I'm not of the legal drinking age.

- I'll probably be going..on Saturday. Depends on how hard my finals are (which happen to be on June 16th and 19th).
- I live in town. So, no..I won't be staying over. I can probably stay out until 12..something. That's not exactly "late" so to say, but it's late enough for a 16 year old.
-Well, if you read the statement above, duh. If you didn't, no.

-I'll be there for Firday and Saturday.
-I won't be staying over, but I'll be going for both days since I live in NY City, so it's not too far away.
-Nope, but I don't plan on drinking ever, so yeah.

Be there two out of the three days, with hope. ^^ I don't know if we're staying over (probably too expensive to do.)

Not of drinking age, sorry. But have fun doing that! ;)

Does anybody know what the con the "opens" and "closes" during the day, if it does at all? This will be my first con, and I don't anything about cons, so could someone please help me by telling me? (I'm asking this because I'd much rather go on Saturday than Sunday, but my ride might not be able to take me on Saturday if it's too late in the day.)

Quick answers:
-Sunday (though I'd like to go Saturday)
-I'm not staying over night, but I'll be there all day.
-Not of drinking age, but my brother and I are (very) used to seeing people pass out drunk.
What's scarier than a DBZ H-game?

To answer your question veshira, The booth for registration open as early 9:00am I believe. There is no exact time as to how the con opens. So if you wanna be there early to pick up your registration then be there as early as the time mentioned. The dealer's room open around 10-11am on Saturday, & most panels have varying times as to when it starts. Seeing as how you can't be there late I don't think being there around 9:00 or so would be a prob.

I'm basing all this on my last venture into AnimeNEXT so I might be wrong, but, I'm pretty 99% sure on this.

I have a question, for those've you who've been there before. I can't find the schedule anywhere, and I'm assuming it won't go up until a few days before the con starts. Anyone have an estime for when it starts and ends each day?

Cons typically start up around 8 to 9 am in the morning (may be more like 10 am on Friday), and actual events start ending around 10 or 11 pm, though things like video rooms may go on into the "wii" (harharlol) hours of the morning.

What do people think about getting together to record an episode of the podcast? I definitely want to have an audience for the episode. I'll have enough mics plugged into the mixer for the three regulars, and I'll get one extra mic for everyone else to come up and join in at intervals, or something.

I want to at least do the podcast and dinner with everyone at some point.

Sure, I'm all for it. After all, you gotta help look for that BGM collection. So after your'e done with your podcast panel, I'll be willing to hang out with you guys.

We're not actually doing a podcast panel; Otaku Generation is doing that. Our episode recording isn't going to be a part of the actual con schedule, either... it's just something we're going to do on our own.

Oh I know about how cons usually go, since I've been to Otakon before, but since I have a final on Friday, so I'm probably not gonna get there until the late afternoon.

Also, if you're gonna try to record the episode there, do you have an actual place as to where you can set everything up if it's not an official panel?

I don't know yet if I'm going to do it anywhere in the convention center, or something like in our hotel room :P. That's why it's going to be important that we keep in touch before and during the con!

VegettoEX, any chance you'll be making similar plans for Otakon? I remember hearing on the Otaku Generation podcast that you regular that con, too, right?

I definitely won't be doing a podcast at Otakon. I run the AMV contest at AnimeNext (which is in my own state), so I already have all the necessary equipment and such on me anyway. Plus, Julian's there.

Otakon I prefer to keep as a regular con for myself. That's besides (hopefully) being in the AMV contest, doing the AMV panel, and probably doing Iron Editor... >.>

But back to AnimeNext...!

I'm not sure. Maybe Friday night? I'm most stressed on Saturday with the AMV contest showing, counting ballots, and then playing the winners during cosplay intermission.

Current plan is to get together for lunch on Saturday after the AMV contest screening, which ends at 11 am (I think). Record after that.

Listen to Podcast Episode #0030 for additional details.
