Goku and Vegeta's Battle Stances
The stances Goku and Vegeta take during the Saiyan arc and more recently the Universe 6 arc of the manga are iconic though I've always wondered how they came to be. Are they based on actual martial arts stances? Are they based on something Toriyama saw while writing the Saiyan arc? He loves movies and always mentioned playing his Famicom. It's probably just something he made up after some thinking like the stance for the Kamehameha but I'm still genuinely curious to see if there is a possible inspiration.
Vegeta's stance seems to based on the stance taken by practitioners of the Northern style Kung fu known as Bajquan.
Goku's stance seems to based on the the the stance taken by practitioners of the Wushu "Horse Stance" mixed with a "Square stance".
I hope I didn't just answer my own question though I'm not the most knowledgeable on martial arts so give your thoughts.

Good question. It's odd Buutenks uses Vegeta's stance against Gohan.

Not as odd as Freeza using the turtle school stance. Freeza has not trained under Master Roshi.

Freeza probably did that to mimic Goku. Goku kicked his ass last time so he probably took some pointers from that fight.Cetra wrote:Captain Strawberry wrote:Good question. It's odd Buutenks uses Vegeta's stance against Gohan.

I guess there are lots of perverted old men who take a liking to turtle like creatures throughout the Universe. Throughout all the planets Freeza's conquered he's probably come by a lot of them and their futile attempts to stop him. Maybe he took a liking to the stance they took? Perhaps one of the beings who forced him to transform had this stance thus Freeza held it in a higher regard? Also if you would be so kind as to show when he did the stance cause I don't recall that moment.Cetra wrote:Captain Strawberry wrote:Good question. This makes a lot of sense as Frieza mimicked Goku as gold because he was defeated by a golden warrior and to mock Goku.ArchedThunder wrote:Freeza probably did that to mimic Goku. Like ArchedThunder said, he was probably doing that to mock Goku.

I didn't say mock, I said mimic. Freeza didn't have a fighting stance when he fought Goku the first time, he probably just copied Goku's because he thought it might help.Polyphase Avatron wrote:Like ArchedThunder said, he was probably doing that to mock Goku.

Well I saw it more as a mocking thing, since he also chose his golden form to mock Goku's SSJ form.
