What is the role of Present Zamas in this arc?
Well, as we saw in CH. 56, both Black and Zamas seem to be knowing each other and working together. But the thing is that, the Zamas that appeared there seems to be the Future version of the Zamas we know. So, my reasons to think that are the following:
- This Zamas has a green potala earring, the same way Black does. And the green colored earrings are the ones that only the Kaio of Universe 10 has. Past Zamas still has his orange ones.
- He seems to be more powerful than the Zamas of the past as we saw in the preview of CH. 57, where Goku says Trunks SS2 is not capable of dealing damage on him. The Past Zamas wasn't capable of winning against Goku, who was in the same form.
- And finally, the most obvious but most important, he seems to be working with Black since the beginning and has a deep grudge on Goku, while Past Zamasu practically knew anything of him before he arrived with Whis and Beerus to his world.
So, assuming that the Zamas who is threatening Future Trunks timeline is the Future self of him, I wonder: what is the role of his past self?
Yeah, Goku and company are dealing with Future Zamasu now, but what about his past self? He is roaming freely while they are getting their asses kicked by Black.
Is he going to repeat the tragic loop of events indefinitely or are the Z-fighters of the past going to stop him? Is he going to help his Future self?
What do you guys think?

I'm thinking he's probably going to turn out the same way as Future Zamasu, if the one we saw in the last episode was a different person, mind you. But I think there might be something else to his character that we haven't found out about yet. Maybe there's still a chance for him.

Who says the Zamasu they met last episode is from Trunks' timeline?
I'll bet hard on it being the same one Goku fought a few episodes back. If he used a time ring to enter Trunks' world, years may have passed for him (up to seventeen), while it would only have been a few days for the time-traveling Goku.

Re: What is the role of Present Zamas in this arc?
The most I read of this stuff, the more I get confused.
If I'm the god guy of Universe 10, why I had to go to an alternative timeline (not my own), in Universe 7 (not my own) and create havoc to people I don't even know?
It's like taking revenge of school bullies by going to another nation and break a window, claiming my revenge on those bullies... Who care?
So...
Immortal Zamasu (alternative) is what you get if you let Zamasu complete his own corruption. It's native of Trunks Timeline, where Goku never meet him and stop his plans before completion. Immortal is what Zamasu will became in an Universe without Goku.
Present Zamasu could be used to find a way to hit Immortal or reverse his corruption, or even understand how the whole mess of Black and Immortal started.
If not even SSBlue can harm Black, and Rosè is OP, they need to find a strategy to beat down someone even stronger than that, and actually the only one that could lead hints is Present Zamasu.
Speculations.

How and why Zamasu winds up in Universe 7 is a question that's yet to be answered regardless of whether he comes from the present or future timelines.ChronoTwigger wrote:If I'm the god guy of Universe 10, why I had to go to an alternative timeline (not my own), in Universe 7 (not my own) and create havoc to people I don't even know?

That said, there are a few plausible leads:
1) Beerus basically gave him Goku's home address a few episodes back ("Hey, Gowasu. Make sure your evil apprentice knows this incredibly rude guy lives on Earth, in Universe 7. Earth. These are the coordinates. Got it? Earth. Now show him the time rings that can let him escape into parallel worlds and represent mortals' greatest sin.")
2) Trunks, the last mortal to change the timeline, lives there
3) It may be out of Kaioshin and a God of Destruction in Trunks' timeline, which could be beneficial
Or none of the above. We'll see.
