Dragon Ball Seiyuu as Dub Actors!

Post by Cure Dragon 255 » Sun Sep 18, 2016 7:45 pm

I've been lurking the Japanese Disney Cast List on Wikipedia and saw many Dragon Ball Regulars as THE official voices for many of the beloved Disney Characters.

How are the Dragon Ball Seiyuu as Dub Actors? Masako Nozawa played DOUG FUNNIE. God that's mindbending lol.

Share clips and opinions on them as Dub Actors!

I can at least kind of picture that since Doug's original voice is on the high side. Meanwhile, Ryusei Nakao is apparently the Japanese voice of Bullwinkle J. Moose.

Takeshi Kusao voiced Leonardo di Caprio in some of his films (Titanic is one of them).
A little too late but yeah, I've been officially active in Kanzenshuu for ten years :)

Kusao was also Napoleon Dynamite.

Kazuhiro Yamaji the VA of Hitto has voiced Hugh Jackman in most of his films. He sounds good as Wolverine.

I had no idea that Witcher got dubbed there as well.

Anyhow...

Japan is a place which uniquely has both a massive (domestic-restricted) VO output, as well as, like everyone else, a HUGE amount of importation of media from Hollywood.

* & as much as "sub purists" may decry, dubbing is generally seen as the most widely acceptable localization - the only reason it isn't too popular amongst anime fandom is economics, NOT quality (furthermore, anime dialogue is cheesy & it's worse hearing it in your own language). Anime is a niche & Cartoon Network/whoever, would prefer to make their own shows similar to anime (ala Teen Titans, Avatar TLA) rather than pay for the show themselves &/or give it an extravagant dub.

* Whereas in Japan, everyone loves, say, Disney & WB stuff, & while dubbing doesn't pay quite as well as Final Fantasy or Dragon Ball...it's comparable to the situation in Vancouver, I'll say. So you regularly have the likes of Ryusei Nakao (Freeza) dubbing characters like Cobra Commander, Yakko Warner, Joker, Jon Arbuckle, as well as even live-action actors like Peter MacNicol

Off the top of my head: Daisuke Gori (Mr. Satan, Gyumao), the legendary Japanese bass voice actor (similar to Kevin Michael Richardson), dubbed Hulk, Iron Giant, Leatherhead (TMNT) actors like Michael Clarke Duncan, & yes, Kevin Michael Richardson himself.

Disney pays incredibly well for their dubs, which is why much of the Kingdom Hearts cast is full of Dragon Ball veterans.
