Budokai Soundtracks - The missing music

Post by Kula » Sat Jun 03, 2006 4:45 pm

Some of you may have noticed that quite a few songs that appear in the Budokai games don't appear on the 2 official soundtracks. This is quite disappointing, so I've started a little project to record all of the songs that DO NOT appear on the soundtracks. So far, I have recorded the following songs...

Budokai 1

Capsule Edit Screen
Capsule Win Screen
Episode Title Card
New Game / Load Game Screen
Next 'Episode' preview
Options Screen
3 Different 'Prepare For Battle' songs
Spirit Bomb Cutscene
Story Mode Prologue
Title Screen
Vegeta Battle Epilogue
Vegeta kills Nappa cut scene

Budokai 2

Capsule Edit Screen
Ending Theme (Instrumental)
Mission description screen
Opening Theme (Instrumental)
Prepare for battle
Title Screen

Budokai 3

Character select
Dragon Universe
Ending Theme (Instrumental)
Hyperbolic Time Chamber stage
New game / load game screen
Options screen
Title screen

All of the songs were recorded by me except for the Budokai 2 ending theme. I have uploaded a zip file of the songs here...

http://rapidshare.de/files/22131877/Bud ... s.zip.html

There are likely to be a few more from the Budokai 1 cutscenes, as I have not actually completed the game. I’m limited to the length of time that the cutscene occurs for, so does anyone know how to rip music from the discs? I'm also missing the short, instrumental opening to Budokai 3.

If anyone could help out, especially with Budokai 1, I'd be very grateful.

Wow Kula, you're a fan after my own heart! :) Erai! Kimi wa erai!!
Budokai 1 is the only Budokai I own (the GameCube version), but I've completed it (and I have all but the Wish Capsules), and though I don't own any of the soundtrack CDs from the games (and therefore unable to identify which pieces are on the CD and which aren't), I'll be happy to help out in whatever way I can.
BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Budokai 3 is the only one of those I've actually played, so I can only comment on that. Yeah, I really missed the Hyperbolic Time Chamber stage music, which is one of the songs I like. So thanks for uploading that. :D

And, did you mention the Tournament stage? I don't think that song's on any of the CDs either.

That particular song isn't on the CDs either. Thanks for pointing it out. While playing through Budokai 3 I also found 5 other songs that aren't on there. I'll work my way through all the games over the next few days to see if there are any more songs missing.

Yeah, at least the World Tournament and Archipalego stages have songs that weren't on the CD's. I already ripped those for my own listening pleasure.. they're too good not to have.

Good work ripping these, though. I really wish some of them would have been put on the soundtrack, and in some cases, extended (namely, "Vegeta Battle Epilogue").

That's what irritated me about the Final Bout OST. Why call it an OST if not ALL of the tracks are on there?

Yeah, but what it did have was farkin' awesome, so in my opinion it made up for it. Kageyama was in full-force there. It was the last contribution to the Dragon World until Budokai 2. I love that CD... :D

Perhaps they didn't want to record similar tracks that was released on CD before. For example, Super Saiyan Goku, Vegeta, Super Saiyan Trunks, and Cell's theme from Final Bout were used in previous DBZ games such as Ultimate Battle 22 and the Super Butodens. But this theory could not be applied to the Budokai soundtracks because the missing tracks were never recorded on any official CDs in the first place and that pisses me off!

I'm also annoyed that the full length vocal openings wern't included on the CD. How many movie soundtrack CDs have short versions of songs? None that I know of.

Don't worry, that's what this little project is all about. I'll record the rest of the tracks over the weekend.

If you think about it, with all of this unreleased music, they could've had another whole CD of music to sell. Like "Dragon Ball Z 1,2,& 3 OST 2: The Missing Tracks" or something. :?
