DBS on Disney XD despite basic cable claim?
So, I made the DB Super airing on the Nick-related channels post. But recently, I've been thinking Disney XD might also be.... (GETS THROWN THROUGH A WALL)..... Hear me out.
I recently found out that Disney XD has acquired the rights to the Beyblade shows and the newest one, Beyblade Burst. What's really interesting about this though is that: Beyblade also has a toyline similarly to what Dragon Ball Super will have next summer. And unlike Naruto Shippuden (which aired on Disney XD without a toyline and required MULTIPLE edits), since DB Super does have one - I can see it airing alongside Beyblade. However, I do acknowledge that Beyblade is inherently made with the intention to sell toys (although isn't this also part of the reason why DB Super was made?). Besides that, I honestly kind of feel Disney XD perfectly fits the demographic Toei might be trying to aim for with the toyline.
EDIT: And now Disney XD has acquired ALL of the Pokemon series and movies (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/20 ... on/.108938) in addition to the Sun and Moon anime and the newest movie. So despite Sean saying Super would air on basic cable, Disney XD seems to be interested in anime lately (or at least kids anime). I mean, Disney XD might want Pokemon due to the popularity it had with Go, but it's still proof they're interested. With Beyblade, Doraemon, Yo-Kai Watch, and Pokemon on Disney XD - I would'nt mind Super being on Disney XD. But at the same time, I might also prefer Super not being diluted with all the Marvel shows, kids anime, and Star Wars. If it airs on a channel like Nick, it would be able to shine more. And like Sean said, it will air on basic cable. Also, is there some video that proves Sean said the basic cable thing or is it just coming from a trustworthy fan? Just wondering. But yeah, Super's most likely airing on Nick regardless of this news.

Re: Speculation II: Dragon Ball Super airing on Disney XD?
When they got their hands on Naruto they wouldn't air it and just held on to the rights for the fun of it so no, I don't want them to get Super.
We're going to be VERY behind by the time it gets dubbed and all we need is for it to get taken off and have to wait for the rights to expire because a "parent" or an SJW doesn't think it's politically correct enough.
I think Toonami will be the best place for it cause the mainstream channels will black out every punch and kick like what Nickelodeon did with Kai which will give it a worse reputation than it already has.

Re: Speculation II: Dragon Ball Super airing on Disney XD?
Yeah, that's the only thing I'm really concerned about but like I said - Dragon Ball Super is different in tone than Naruto Shippuden. Shippuden doesn't fit alongside the fun Marvel shows, Star Wars Rebels (maybe), Beyblade Burst, and Disney XD's other anime and action series. But DB Super doesn't require too many heavy edits, which is why I feel like it might not be the end of the world if Disney XD got it. Also, similarly to how Dragon Ball Z broke the typical action mold of series like X-Men or TMNT back in the '90s - Dragon Ball Super can break the mold of all of the mediocre Marvel shows currently airing on Disney XD. I'm definitely not saying DB Super is a game-changer like Z was in terms of action, but DB Super is still different than the typical Marvel show if you know what I mean. Also, Star Wars Rebels is a series adults watch (just like DB Super). And just like Beyblade, DB Super has a toyline. Any thoughts on my last two sentences?sintzu wrote:When they got their hands on Naruto they wouldn't air it and just held on to the rights for the fun of it so no, I don't want them to get Super.

You bring up good points but I still think it'll be more trouble than it's worth.
I know Toei wants to market this at kids so they'll want a mainstream channel but I don't think it's going to work out very well.

I respect your opinion and understand where you're coming from. And don't worry, I'm almost 100% positive Toonami will air an uncut Dragon Ball Super and maybe even expand Toonami to an earlier timeslot. But I feel like if we want Dragon Ball to become bigger for a new generation and not the cult thing it's kind of become (Don't get me wrong, Dragon Ball is still INSANELY popular, but not like it was back in the day) - We're going to have to accept the edits it will require to air on a kids network (as long as they're not overly ridiculous like 4kids making Blue Popo). Kai created a new generation of DB fans and I'm hoping DB Super can do something similar since it's been almost seven years since Kai first aired on Nicktoons.sintzu wrote:You bring up good points but I still think it'll be more trouble than it's worth.

I'm surprise people have been asking for DB to return on a kids network in the last few years when I remember you had fans that hated DBZ being on the old days of Toonami for censorship. I still remember how fans on the web back in the early 2000's hated DBZ on Toonami for not being hardcore like the Japanese version.

Re: Speculation II: Dragon Ball Super airing on Disney XD?
I think many fans are just thinking about the younger generation of fans and the fact that if ONLY aired on Adult Swim's Toonami, DB Super would never reach the younger fans (Something I'm sure Toei doesn't want because of the upcoming kids merchandise). Also, now that I think about it - Disney XD really is the only kids channel that still invests in action cartoons (Well, it's pretty much mostly the stuff that Disney owns like Marvel cartoons and Star Wars Rebels). I mean, Nick has TMNT, Power Rangers, Yu-Gi-Oh, and I think Digimon WHILE Disney XD has Beyblade, Doraemon, and Yokai Watch. So, who knows? I'm just starting to think Super fits Disney XD's demographic prettty well, even though I still feat it might not be the best network and perhaps Nick could do it better (like they did with Nicktoons, for the most part).Hellspawn28 wrote:I'm surprise people have been asking for DB to return on a kids network in the last few years when I remember you had fans that hated DBZ being on the old days of Toonami for censorship. And I'm still not sure if Cartoon Network would ever even air DB Super besides Adult Swim. CN has referenced DBZ in two of their shows (Gumball and TTG)

I'd be fine with Disney getting rights to Dragon Ball, they've done great things with Marvel and Star Wars, but the Disney channel? Isn't that for small children? Super wouldn't be appropriate.
Re: Speculation II: Dragon Ball Super airing on Disney XD?
Eh, I wouldn't say that. You'd be surprised about the kinda stuff Disney Channel has aired in the past.UpFromTheSkies wrote:I'd be fine with Disney getting rights to Dragon Ball, they've done great things with Marvel and Star Wars, but the Disney channel? Re: Speculation II: Dragon Ball Super airing on Disney XD?
There aren't many particularly gruesome things in Super that I couldn't see it ending up on Disney XD almost untouched. Some of the Black stuff might get censored like Goku getting a big hole in his chest.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I love these threads... But do we need it to be so similar to the other one? Change the title to remove the Speculation part.
Anyway, I would love to see the Dragon Ball Super anime on Disney XD. I just want it to be on a mainstream kids net and DXD fits the bill. I know Gravity Falls finale scored 2.6 million viewers!

Re: Dragon Ball Super airing on Disney XD?
My bad about the title man, I just wanted people to know that it's more-or-less a sequel discussion to the Nick/Nicktoons discussion. But you have a point, this should stand on its own. But yeah, I'm really kind of rooting for Disney XD to get it if Nick and Cartoon Network reject it because based on the programming I've seen from Disney XD (kids anime, Marvel, Star Wars) - Dragon Ball Super might really fit on XD and attract an audience that both Nick and CN might not be able to get. Still, I'm not at all against CN or Nick getting the series. But DB Super airing on the same channel as a Star Wars series sounds pretty cool to me.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I love these threads... And when it comes to Nick, I don't mind Super airing there - But the thought of DB Super airing alongside its cringe-inducing crappy live-action shows is too much (which is why Nicktoons might be the place to go like with Kai). And I don't know if Cartoon Network cares about anime (besides Pokemon airing Saturday mornings only) even though DBZ has been referenced in two of their shows. And Adult Swim's Toonami doesn't count as Cartoon Network in my opinion.
Also, I know I keep saying this - but Toei's upcoming U.S toyline is pretty much telling me they want to attract a new generation of kid DB fans and have it to where kids can have access to the series in the same way a kid in Japan can watch it. And I realize Naruto Shippuden was put in the death slot, not given proper treatment and was canceled by Disney XD - But DB Super is more kids-friendly and simple in themes than mature Naruto is. This is why I have hope that Disney XD MIGHT treat DB Super better than they did Shippuden, especially since Shippuden aired the same year Disney XD became a channel. I'm sure they learned a lot since then about what they want to have featured on their channel.

Re: DB Super airing on Disney XD in the U.S 2017?
Thanks for changing the title man! I really appreciate it.
I wonder how Disney XD would handle the Sword Impalements. I know they removed impalements from Naruto Shippuden...but had Robonyan be fully impaled. Because he was getting pleasure from being stabbed in the butt and had to make it more violent lol.

Pokémon Sun and Moon will be on Disney XD so there is sort-of a chance of it happening.

Did he sound serious about it OR was he just being snarky/jokey with the response to stop fans from asking him?rs_chaosmaster wrote:I can tell you right now their is no video we were not allowed to record anything about it. Re: DBS on Disney XD despite basic cable claim?
I doubt he would say that if he didnt mean it. The reason he left twitter and other social media was because he was unable to tell anyone anything about Super, and fans pestered him too much. I doubt that he would deliberately put so much attention and expectations on him by lying/joking about it.-
