Speculation of DBZ Season One Covers
I was looking over the covers of the Japanese releases of Dragon Ball Z when I noticed something about them. They all have yellow backgrounds.

There's nothing unusual about that but when I looked at the box for the upcoming Season One, I noticed that it has a yellow background with what I assume to be a new image of Vegeta not seen anywhere else.

It almost looks like Akira Toriyama himself drew it. I got to thinking about how FUNimation has improved with the covers of their DBZ movie covers and non-Dragon Ball releases, using the original DVD artwork for the domestic releases. Fullmetal Alchemist, Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki, Samurai 7. They all were released using the original Japanese covers.
What if FUNimation was doing the same thing with the upcoming release of Dragon Ball Z: Season One? With five DVDs, they could use the first five covers of the Japanese releases, skipping the cover of Yajirobe cutting off Vegeta's tail.
Does anyone else agree? Disagree?

Y'know, I think FUNimation's UUEs look much better; they capture the feel of Dragonball Z (all of that bad-ass action, with blood and gore
). Now, look at the yellow Japanese covers. Yellow.
That's just so... Jolly. Is Guldo jolly when he gets his head decapitated? Err...No.

A-are you being sarcastic?
I'm not impressed at all by the box set cover and I don't really think it's any indication of them using the japanese release covers. They like to do everything themselves, that's not going to change I don't think.

Well, out of the first six covers, I'd rather they'd skip the third cover since it just doesn't jump out at me as kickass as the others.
But, I'd rather Funimation gets their own covers from Toei.

I think what Mr. Announcer is trying to indicate is that he likes the Japanese cover better because of FUNi's usage of making their own covers & I agree full-heartedly. It's just FUNi's poor attempt to look like the really cool Japanese covers. The only thing I like about the UUE cover is the artwork done by Toei themselves, but I don't think that even holds a candle to the artwork done for the JPN R2 DVD releases.
Also Steven Perry, after your previous I have to strongly disagree with given your statements. I think you have to keep in mind that not everyone is as a avid fan of the dub as you are (if I'm not mistaken). I also don't agree with the statements given about the UUE covers capturing the feel of DBZ. Personally, I think it's been given the wrong "angsty" & "hardcore" feel that most Americans grew up with, that they tend to categorize it with something that I feel is not & it sickens me to my stomach. I also feel that not everyone likes the series for its blood & gore or bad-ass action (which most Americans grew up with those given reasons). As "Conan the SSJ" mentioned in a previous thread the action is just sort of "supplement" for what some people truely treasure what's underneath. Be it the story, the characters, the character development the drama, etc.,
I understand that you live in the UK & I believe you rarely get DragonBall in that area so it's understandable what's given said & I'm not trying to scold or start a flame war as that's not my intention. I'm just saying put a little "weight" into what you say. In other words, carefully consider what your'e going to post before you post it as mentioned in the Daizex rules. Basically, you can still say your opinion but back it up some understanding of some sort. It's just that I felt your post was so over the top & somewhat merciless it made my head want to explode in misery that I just had to post this long lecture. Whatever or not people disagree with me that's fine, this is just how I feel & I just want avoid any conflict before it starts or I just wanted to say what I feel because you post just really made feel I had to say something.

No problem.
Now to answer Ricochet's question before I got a little over off topic.

I kinda agree. Given what you mentioned, it is possible that FUNimation could release the JPN R2 DVD atworks in the box set, but that would also mean its possible that FUNimation could get the remasters for the DVDs. Up to this point its just pure speculation. I gonna go with Mr. Announcer's reply of FUNimation's poor attempt at recreating the JPN R2 DVD artwork, but with FUNimation anything goes. What if FUNimation was doing the same thing with the upcoming release of Dragon Ball Z: Season One? With five DVDs, they could use the first five covers of the Japanese releases, skipping the cover of Yajirobe cutting off Vegeta's tail.
