The DARKEST Arc we've had in a while

Post by HyugaProdigy » Thu Nov 24, 2016 12:43 am

I can't be the only one here who felt this future trunk arc literally took my heart away?? It took me awhile to get myself back together. Seriously it was Sad because Everyone he knew and loved (except Mai) was killed. His world.. his whole UNIVERSE was DESTROYED and he wasn't able to avenge anyone, protect anyone or solve his problems on his own. Ultimately this entire arc was pointless because everything was built up that Trunk will give all these remaining survivors some HOPE. These remaining survivors had gone through a lot and put a lot of faith in Trunk . The whole message was to Retained hope in his timeline Not to Branch off ANOTHER TIMELINE where ONLY these 2 find another hope...

Ultimately Zamasu Won in the whole zero mortal plan so literally EVERYTHING has been thrown out to the window.

It wouldn't matter if he goes to see all the people he cherished are alive in another alternate timeline. Trunk Even Said to Gohan that He Failed! All the people he will see in that new timeline aren't the same people, and he will never get them back. The people Trunk will meet are NOTHING more than the empty Hollow of their former selves. Trunk and Mai would be living in a world full of lies.

Trunks gets to go back to a point before a lot of stuff went down but the world is still in ruin and the majority of people in the world are dead. On top of that, he can't UN-SEE or forget everything he experienced. His mentor and best friend's corpse, his mother being murdered, countless people dying that he was unable to protect..

Trunk will always be the most tragic character in this series and it's one of the reasons he's my favorite. He failed but he's still an AMAZING character and regardless of any asspulls, his failure or ANYTHING you gotta respect and feel for the dude.

It was an out of body experience that shook me that i had to regroup and recover from.

Seriously

Well, it ain't called the "Black" arc for nothing, am I right?

Seriously
You are hardly the only one who's heart was broken after this arc.
Trunks is indeed one of the most compelling characters in the show just for the simple reason that he knows what it's like to REALLY lose everything, and he reacts like a normal human being does on these losses.

In comparison, Trunks did a great job in protecting his time-line just on his own without the aid of the dragonballs.
But this was a fight he just couldn't win, not even with Goku and Vegeta's help.
I'm sure the deaths of those children will haunt him for the rest of his life, but he didn't completely fail though.
He saved Mai.
Many people are asking what was exactly the reason for even telling this arc?
It was for Trunks and Mai to meet each other and survive, because they are somehow important for the future.

(It was already hinted by Bulma)

I'd say it's the darkest arc in Dragon Ball, period. This is the first arc where the Dragon Ball haven't been able to bail out the main cast. Yes, other arcs have had bittersweet endings, but everything always panned out well for the cast in the end, with any dead characters being eventually brought back to life. Everything about Future Trunks' entire timeline is gone and there's nothing that can be done to change that. Future Trunks and Mai just have to deal with the consequences and move on. This is the first time that Dragon Ball has even gone down this route, and credit to Toriyama/Toei for having the bravery to do something so drastically un-Dragon Ball for an ending of an arc.
