Will King Kai lose his position if he's not revived?

Post by DBS916 » Wed Nov 30, 2016 1:57 am

With King Kai being dead, I was wondering if he would ultimately lose his status as a Kai. Dragon Ball wiki mentions when a Kai dies, the shinjin would draw lots among themselves to chose who'll become the new Kai. Also, Super has brought up King Kai being upset with being deceased, and repeatedly requesting for Goku to revive him; only for it not to happen.

Whatever the writers have in store for King Kai in the near future, I just hope it's good. Because he's one of my favorite characters.

"Dragon Ball Wiki"

There's your problem.

Ok, seriously speaking I dont think DB Wiki is accurate at all. Ask more knowledgeable members about it here on Kanzenshuu.

The info is sourced from this Toriyama SEG interview wherein he states:
Inside the big ball I mentioned before, there is a planet, called the World Core [Kaishin-sei] where the Kaiō are born and raised. It’s a world like a gigantic Planet Kaiō, and Kaiō-sama and his peers are born as Core People [Shin-jin] from the fruit of the World Core’s giant World Tree [Kaiju]. The planet’s population is about 80. Core People are neither male nor female, and their average lifespan is said to be about 75,000 years. At a castle that’s like a school, they learn a variety of things, and live an easygoing life; however, if a Kaiō dies on one of the Kaiō Planets, the next Kaiō is chosen from among them by lottery. However, a Kaiōshin is chosen only from Core People who are born from a special golden fruit, which rarely occurs. In addition, there are occasionally delinquent Core People with evil hearts; these ones fall under the Makaiō.
Of course, the fact that we see dead Kaio continue to serve in his position seems to contradict this statement. Since he mentioned the average lifespan of a Core Person, it's possible that a dead Kaio is only replaced if they die of old age. Alternatively, given that we don't know exactly how this replacement process works, it could be that his successor simply hasn't been chosen yet and he wants to return to life before that process starts.

this is a plot hole. When they mean die they mean die like the supreme kais Buu killed. However they should of came back with a halo on their head but they didn't... makes no sense, lol

Also it seems Toriyama forgot that universe 7 original had 5 supreme kais because universe 6 and 10 only have 1, lol.

I think the key word is 'rarely'. Maybe it could mean, King Kai should be replaced however the election rarely occurs so King Kai is applicable to lose his position.

That particular part is talking about Kaioshin ("Supreme Kai"), which are selected from people born from a golden fruit, which rarely occurs. North Kaio is a regular Kaio, so that doesn't apply to him.

well, the cell saga DID literally contradict this by having king kai stay in his position despite being dead. But probably its because the lottery didn't happen yet so thats why he wants to be revived as quick as possible.

I think until the other three kais die he may still be stuck in his position dead or alive.

Probably at some point, yes. Also, why won't they revive him?
