What does Super Buu think of Mr. Satan?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

What does Super Buu think of Mr. Satan?

Post by RandomGuy96 » Mon Dec 05, 2016 5:07 am

I've always wondered about this little personality trait. When he forms, the first thing Super Buu does is brutally kill the two men who wounded Mr. Satan. He then turns his attention towards Satan himself seemingly with lethal intent, but upon recognizing his face he adopts a shocked expression, says Satan's name, and leaves him, unharmed. Later, on Kami's Lookout, we get two more moments that remind us of this: one is when he kills every single human on Earth, billions of people... but spares Mr. Satan. Two, when he's about to get impatient and smash the Lookout, Piccolo is able to calm him down by pointing out that Mr. Satan's daughter wants him to wait. He gets angry, but begrudgingly decides to wait because "she does have Satan's scent".

So, I'm curious. What are Super Buu's actual feelings on Mr. Satan? Why does Super Buu spare him? Is he actually, genuinely fond of the human, and if so why? Why does he suddenly change his mind after absorbing Gotenks and Piccolo (he has no problem trying to kill Satan and Dende later)? If that hadn't happened, what would have been his plan re:Satan? Just leave him and Bee alone on the planet, and eventually the sole other living sapient beings in the universe? I think this is an interesting facet of an otherwise simple character that doesn't get any attention.

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke

Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.

Fat Buu still has influence over Super Buu's mind and personality, as shown by him still being obsessed with sweet confections. To him he has an inexplicable reluctance to kill Mr. Satan due to Fat Buu's bond with him, but probably would have killed him sooner or later in the same way Fat Buu might have due to all the bottled-up evil.

Super Buu absorbing other characters reduces Fat Buu's influence over him. The only truly weird thing is that Gotenks', Piccolo's, and Gohan's bonds didn't instill any kind of empathy into Super Buu like Fat Buu's did, but I guess base Super Buu is more an out-and-out fusion between Evil Buu and Fat Buu (due to Evil Buu barely even having a body) as opposed to later absorptions, which Super Buu likely had more control over. Otherwise we would have seen him inherit some of Gotenks' more terrible qualities.

Evil Boo and Fat Boo are the same being. They have the exact same absorbtions, there's nothing separating them as beings. The diffence is that one has their good side dominating the personality, while the other has their evil side dominating. But they're the same person. Evil Boo remembers the fun he had with Mr. Satan, he still has a SMIDGE of good deep within his mind, so yes, he was genuinely fond of him.

Why did he change his mind later? I guess he was originally being ruled by instincts, but Piccolo's sophistication allowed him to start thinking freely, so he was no longer compulsed to protect Satan.

I think it might be a form of trauma, in the sense he doesn't want to remember that he actually liked someone in his previous form. Kind of like how listening to a certain song can instantly remind you of a certain moment.
