Most Missed Names in the Series?

Post by Zephyr » Mon Dec 19, 2016 2:02 am

The franchise has had countless individuals working on it, in writing, scoring, voicing, animating, etc. Unavoidably, everyone must eventually move on to other projects or retire, and as a result we see people stop working on the franchise that we wish had continued their work.

Who do you guys miss the most? My top five would probably be:
Shunsuke Kikuchi
Hironobu Kageyama
Joji Yanami
Minoru Maeda
Masaki Sato

Without these five guys, it doesn't really look or sound like Dragon Ball to me anymore. At least not fully.

Kikuchi. I miss his music paired with animated Dragon Ball so much.
On hiatus.

Kikuchi Shinsuke and Kageyama Hironobu. They were a very integral part of the franchise and their absence has made Dragon Ball music which was one of the show's strongest points so weak.

Arai Hidenori and his sound effects. They were also iconic and made every punch impactful, but now it's gone. I really hope he comes back.

Studio Cockpit guys. Iwane Masa'aki in particular. He was developing himself under Masunaga Keisuke during Dragon Ball Z and Cockpit episodes were fantastic. I miss those intense faces. Iwane went on to work on Pocket Monsters and has done some incredible work. It'll be awesome, if he comes back.

Yanami Jouji, although I have got used to Tatsuta Naoki as narrator but Yanami's charm will forever be missed. I don't want him to come back, unless he is fully recovered.

Kikuchi for sure. While his hard on for Jew's harp was a bit annoying, he was one of the reasons I watched DB.

Daisuke Gori. Satan is one of my favorite characters, and Gori's performance was a very large part of that. Not to mention all of the other characters he voiced. May he rest in peace.

Maeda. Plain and simple he and his team kept Dragon Ball's quality at such a level for the series on a week to week basis that modern Dragon Ball just can't compare. I love the way he drew faces, hair, clothing.... he also had so much respect to the source of his style (unlike other artists...). He's greatly missed.
My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada

This about sums it up for me, but I want to add Kohei Miyauchi. While I am completely fine with Masaharu Sato and of course the circumstances of his replacement are obvious, I can't say I don't miss how charming Muten Roshi used to be. Now he seems much more like just an old man, rather than a quirky martial arts master. It was fine when the character was just a passive cast member, but with his return to fighting proeminence it's just not the same.

Akihito Tokunaga. IMO, his GT score is absolutely the best music Dragon Ball has ever had.
The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

Shunsuke Kikuchi and Hironobu Kageyama are the guys I miss the most. Their musical contributions to Dragon Ball were immense and what made Dragon Ball such a interactive experience.

Torishima. He's the one who kept Toriyama in check. Though the fact that he liked the script for F doesn't inspire me much confidence in regards to his ability as an editor nowadays...

I also miss Kageyama, Maeda, Kikuchi and even Koyama at times.

Shunsuke Kikuchi's music is Dragon Ball and anyone who takes over from him will never amount to his astoundingly good (and grievously underappreciated) BGMs. I wish he'd just come out of retirement because what I've heard of Norihito Sumitomo is synth mixed with old video game music that shouldn't be all of Dragon Ball.
"All of you. All of you must have KILL all the SEASONS!" -Dough (Tenshinhan), Speedy Dub of Movie 9.

"My opinion of Norihito's Sumitomo's new score is... well, very mixed. The stuff that's good is pretty darn good, but the stuff that's bad makes elevator music sound like Jerry freaking Goldsmith." -Kenisu

Daisuke Gōri. Without him, who will voice all these random big guy henchman characters? :(

He's probably referring to the Bardock special. Zarbon was the one who first recommended destroying Planet Vegeta because the saiyans were rapidly growing in strength.
It was actually Beerus disguised as Zarbon #StayWoke
Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.
