Copy-Vegeta arc or the Garlic Jr. arc?

Post by omaro34 » Mon Dec 19, 2016 5:23 pm

Simple my good friends. If you had to choose between the Copy-Vegeta Arc or the Garlic Jr Arc, which would it be and why? Both are filler Arcs and I've heard distaste from the community when these 2 arcs are mentioned.

I still laugh at the names of Garlic Jr's henchman: Ketchup, Vinegar, Salt, etc.

The Copy-Vegeta Arc was quite boring, but it wasn't nearly as long as the Garlic Jr stuff.

If I had to personally choose one, it would probably be the Garlic Jr Arc, since Garlic Jr was already an established villain from a previously made Dragonball film. Him returning wasn't a terrible idea. Plus the Z fighters had to learn not to rely on Goku or Vegeta to get the job done.

Commeson for me. It explored Planet Potaufeu, adding to the lore of the franchise, and Commeson in general was a nice do-over of the Baby concept. Gryll and his minions were interesting too.

I still love the Garlic Jr. arc, but Commeson moreso.

Garlic Jr, mainly because nostalgia, when i watched it as a little kid i thought it was ok and after that, i didn't rewatch it ever again. The copy Vegeta on the other hand was an arc that i've watched with a different point of view from how i would do it if i was younger so i can't help but dislike it more.

I still liked some things like the fact that an entire race dissapeared to save the universe, but overall, i was just boring and waiting for the Goku Black arc.
I really miss ma boy, Black :(

Very hard choice. On one hand I kind of enjoy the story of the Commeson more, but I have to give the edge to the Garlic Jr arc for giving Piccolo one of his best fights.

Garlic Jr. arc is much better, and gives Gohan, Krillin and Piccolo things to do without Goku. We also see Vegeta traveling through space killing off some remaining Freeza henchmen looking for Goku.

Id rather watch Garlic Jr on repeat than ever watch those copy Vegeta episodes again once.
Currently watching: My Hero Academia

Last watched: Akame Ga Kill, Hokuto No Ken, Hokuto No Ken 2, Hunter X Hunter

Not to mention Garlic Jr gave us a fight on Kami's Palace, we've never had a fight there at any point in the main anime canon. It made a great backdrop for the fighting we've never seen before.

I also liked how Kami and Mr. Popo got a role, and Yajirobe/Korin with Marron was pretty funny.

Garlic Jr. Arc was at least a bit memorable with Icarus and Marron being side characters we remember to this day.

The only thing I remember from the copy Vegeta arc despite watching it more recently was Vegeta sucking on a dummy/pacifier, which he somehow didn't know was used by babies despite his son sucking on one in the Cell saga. Guess he really was a crappy father.

Maybe I'm biased though; Krillin, Gohan and Piccolo got to do things, and I love it when that trio do things. Also Kami got to be important! Briefly! Before he stopped existing in the next arc due to fusion.

Commeson = Consommè.
A nice name.
There was a wonderful gag of Jaco.
Pacifier Vegeta.
I dunno why but Monaka was fun.
The fights were horrible, but I think the filler was just a way to show us some more of those side chara.
People were in need for more serious action, and that's why the filler was perceived so bad.

Garlc Jr was too... typical. Skippable entirely and too much self contained.
I learned english listening to songs. So I don't know anything about. The day you had to learn play piano by just listening .mp3, you'll understand.

Marron does reappear in the early Cell saga for some reason.

Continuity-wise, his return made no sense as he was taking revenge for something that couldn't possibly have happened. I don't see how it was a good idea.
If they pulled something like this these days people would lose their shit. Seriously, the arc would be at least harmless if they came up with an original villain with the same powers.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Oh, another thing i hate in the Garlic Jr. arc was that thanks to it, Vegeta didn't get to spend the whole year living on Earth with Bulma, a big change compared to the manga. There's even a line later, where Yamcha calls her out for that, and it lacks the same effect considering Freeza arrives right after Vegeta comes back in the anime.
